Bush calls heterosexual marriage 'ideal'
http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/02/27/bush.amendment/

"Four years ago, Bush -- then a candidate for the White House -- described the notion of same-sex marriage as a state issue. Bush made clear his personal opposition to same-sex marriages, but he said on several occasions that it was a matter for individual states to decide.

But in the wake of state court action in Massachusetts that has opened the door to a recognition of same-sex marriages and marriage ceremonies for same-sex couples in San Francisco, California, Bush is now calling for federal intervention.

So ideal, they should all have to go live with their Ex wives.

1. It's always a state issue
... unless it has to do with a penis or vagina, and then the rabid Repubs just gotta step in.

21. More like it's always a state issue,
as long as the states go along with the White House.

2. How is it ideal for two gay men to marry women?
Is he really that dumb?

"I believe marriage has served society well and I believe it is important to affirm that marriage of a man and woman is ideal, and the job of the president is to drive policy toward the ideal," Bush told reporters in response to a question."

How in the world is heterosexual marriage ideal for everyone? I can not imagine a lesbian being happily married to a heterosexual man.

11. I've never understood that comment.
Marriage has served society well.

In what regard? Yes, there are MANY people who are happily married but there are always abusive relationships, cheating, divorce. Exactly how has marriage "served" society well?

And, if it serves society well, there shouldn't be a problem with two men or two women marrying. After all, if it serves society so well it would be a great thing if everyone married.

7. In the article I read
online that gave that quote at http://www.365gay.com/newscon04/02/022704bushMarr.htm, *
couldn't give a reason why gay marriage would be harmful to heterosexual unions, and he sidestepped the question more than once.

3. We need to make these campaign issues
Edited on Fri Feb-27-04 05:57 PM by jedicord
First: States' Rights. He's blown those all to heck and back. For the people I know who voted for Bush last time, this was their major beef.

Second: The man wants to make an amendment to the Constitution which, for the first time in American history, separates a class of people. Certainly this has got to bother people.

Seriously, certainly * has got to bother people.

I had a political "discussion" with a Repug friend of mine Saturday night. All she could say in defense of * was that Clinton was so "not a man" that he had to use a cigar. Really.

23. She agrees with everything
Edited on Sat Feb-28-04 07:26 PM by Marianne
because she has been told to do so--and so does so--otherwise she will lose her source of economic support and then what? She has done nothing to earn any money for thirty or more years. All she has done in order to be supported is to birth twins. And girls besides and I have the feeling that in the Bush's world, girls are not as desirable as boy heirs.

No, she agrees with everything because if she did not she would be lost.

18. It's ideal if you're hetero
if you're gay, well .......

I knew a woman who married a guy who was gay. The marriage didn't exactly go very well (she didn't know he was gay, even though to everybody else it seemed kinda obvious). Pretty soon he was having an affair with his male boss, came out, marriage fell apart, much bitterness ensued.

22. All the divorces and the adultery is proof enough of this ideal
If the fundies really cared about the "sanctity" of marriage, they should outlaw divorce and impose the death penalty for adultery.

Give heteros a dose of the medicine that GLBTs have to endure.
