World press seizes on bugging claims

Papers across the world have picked up on former British cabinet minister Clare Short's allegations that the British government bugged UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan's phone calls.Some argue that the revelations will damage British Prime Minister Tony Blair's reputation, though Ms Short's actions also come in for sharp criticism. The following is a snapshot of international comment:

Just wait for the next biggie to blow in the UK press: How Blair, acting on a direct request from Shrub, sanctioned the hostage-taking of the UN's Head of Military Intelligence, by paid-off UK-based IRA members, during the summer of 2000. Why? Because of UN Security Council reports from 1992-1998 detailing the systematic total destruction of all WMD's and the spying network that Aldrich Ames recruited worldwide, along with FBI traitor Bob Hanssen, to propagate disinformation to prove that WMD's actually existed.

This intelligence also listed all the Opus Dei members worldwide in the Ames and Hanssen network who had infiltrated intelligence gathering agencies and security organisations.

At the moment anyone trying to publish this one in the UK press receives a nasty visit from the Special Branch.

There is a hush hush law suit in the UK High Court currently where the family of the UN Head of Military Intelligence is suing Blair over this.

So if Blair is looking sick as a parrot these days - and Shrub looks like he's hitting the sauce again - it may well be connected!

13. Mexican outrage over UN bugging allegations

(can't find a link detailing this, but is from an email outlining what's on tonight's Channel 4 News):

The Mexicans are hopping mad. Our man in New York, Jonathan Rugman, is having his ear bent even as I write. The Mexican Ambassador to the UN has hauled him in to tell him of his country's outrage over the revelations from the Gun case.

Katharine Gun's prosecution under the Official Secrets act was driven by her leaking an email that had crossed her desk at the GCHQ spy centre. The email was from the US security agency asking for assistance in penetrating the doings and goings on of the six swing states whose votes would matter when it came to a second UN resolution sanctioning war on Iraq. In the six was Mexico, the implication is that we were spying on Mexico at the UN.

It's a major breach of trust. Yes everybody spies, they spy on their enemies. Bu$h spied on UN Weapons Inspectors, they were on our side. They were part of the team. The Sec. Gen of the UN can not function without being able to conduct sensitive business privately.
