Half Of Interstate 80 Bridge Closed For Safety
Source: KWQC

Tuesday night, bridge inspectors noticed a crack in a floor beam on the Interstate 80 Bridge over the Mississippi River in LeClaire. Part of the bridge is already torn up, and as a result, both eastbound lanes into Illinois are closed. That means interstate traffic is being detoured.

Eastbound travelers are being diverted to I-280 or I-74 into Illinois and then to Interstate 80, southeast of the Quad Cities. The travel headache is being created in the name of safety.

Since the 2007 Minnesota bridge collapse, engineers in every state inspect bridges annually. On Tuesday, inspectors with the Illinois Department of Transportation didn't like what they saw on the I-80 Bridge.

The eastbound lanes of the I-80 Bridge were closed immediately, giving crews full access to the bridge.

What a mess. Plus there was already construction going on with I-74. If you're just passing through your best bet is to take I-280.

2. Can you please put the location in parentheses on that title?
Otherwise a lot of people might be worried about their commute only to find out that the problem is halfway across the country.

I will be traveling that way

It seems that I-74 has continuous construction.

7. Hopefully the work will progress once I-80 is reopened
They're going to eventually replace the I-74 bridges and rebuild most of I-74 in the Quad City area.
