Palin has book deal, memoir to come next year
Source: Komo4news.com

NEW YORK (AP) - You knew it was coming: Sarah Palin is ready to tell her side, agreeing to publish a memoir with HarperCollins. The book comes out in Spring 2010 - the year she is up for re-election.

"There's been so much written about and spoken about in the mainstream media and in the anonymous blogosphere world, that this will be a wonderful, refreshing chance for me to get to tell my story, that a lot of people have asked about, unfiltered," the Alaska governor and 2008 vice presidential candidate said during a brief telephone interview Tuesday with The Associated Press.

Palin's memoir, currently untitled, will cover her personal and political life, from her childhood in Alaska and last year's campaign to her political beliefs and her family life, including the pregnancy of her teenage daughter, Bristol Palin, who gave birth in December to a baby boy, Tripp. (She and the baby's father, Levi Johnston, have since ended their relationship.)

"In fairness to my family, this is going be a good opportunity for them, too, because there have been so many misperceptions out there about who we are and what we believe in, and I'm excited to get to put my journalism degree to work and tell my story as it relates to my family," said Palin, 45, who in 1987 graduated from the University of Idaho with a degree in journalism.

2. Oooh, she's going to put her journalism degree to work! This ought to be rich.
I hope that she refuses the services of a ghost writer, does the whole thing herself, and doesn't even get an editor! Wouldn't want to waste that degree.

He got away with it.

What's his first name again? It's not "Ace", unless that's a diminutive for "Ace Hole"...

13. Here's our law...
Sec. 39.52.120. Misuse of official position.
(a) A public officer may not use, or attempt to use, an official position for personal gain,
and may not intentionally secure or grant unwarranted benefits or treatment for any person.
(b) A public officer may not
(1) seek other employment or contracts through the use or attempted use of official
position;
(2) accept, receive, or solicit compensation for the performance of official duties or
responsibilities from a person other than the state;
(3) use state time, property, equipment, or other facilities to benefit personal or financial
interests;
(4) take or withhold official action in order to affect a matter in which the public officer
has a personal or financial interest;
(5) attempt to benefit a personal or financial interest through coercion of a subordinate or
require another public officer to perform services for the private benefit of the public officer at
any time;

(1) and (3) seem particularly applicable, although (4) and (5) might come into play, too. She's already got her subordinates covering her butt at every opportunity.

in her financial statement (March 2010).

And...she took time to carefully word it that she would work on the memoirs AFTER hours and not during governor time...um, isn't a governor a governor "24/7"?? But then again, I forgot, we are talking Palin here so it's more of a "1/3" kind of job, isn't it?

17. Further on in the executive ethics act it states...
S 39.52.170. Outside Employment Restricted.
(a) A public employee may not render services to benefit a personal or financial interest or engage in or accept employment outside the agency which the employee serves, if the outside employment or service is incompatible or in conflict with the proper discharge of official duties.
(b) A public employee rendering services for compensation, or engaging in employment outside the employee’s agency, shall report by July 1 of each year the outside services or employment to the employee’s designated supervisor. During the year, any change in an employee’s outside service or employment activity must be reported to the designated supervisor as it occurs.
(c) The head of a principal executive department of the state may not accept employment for compensation outside the agency that the executive head serves.

It looks like (c) should be a deal-killer. We'll see how this turns out. Maybe she'll have to resign as governor to write her book -- which wouldn't hurt my feelings at all.

Before it has a chance to hit the book stores.
Not like its timing (coincidentally with the election) was preplanned on her part.

Make me happy to have that release date interrupted.
We have work to do.

10. Tetnative title: Timing is Everything?
The time to release this book was in January, not a year or two from now. No one will give a shit. Even if she tries to use it as a manifesto to launch a national campaign. Her popularity is sinking lower and lower by the day.

She should have put her shoulder to the wheel after she lost and just worked through Xmas.

A lot can happen in a year, after all--unless she plans on keeping the kids under wraps for all that time.

Gee...wonder if she will include family pictures...and explain why it is that Bristol when from very slim figure in June 2007 (myspace pic) to a having what looks like a much fuller figure, almost baby bump-like, just 3 months later (Sept 2007). And why it is that in June 2007, Bristol wrote on Johnny's myspace "my mom heard us on the phone last night, she asked me if I was pregnant".

I'm SURE she will explain all this and more, right???

29. More Coulter style bulk buys. Not individual sales
that's how the rightwing gets their books on the bestseller lists. Bulk buys. Scaife and friends throw money at these books in order to make it appear that thousands of Americans are buying the books. They aren't. Meanwhile, attend a rightwing luncheon, get a book. Or two. They're warehoused, just waiting for the next fundraiser.

37. Faux News and Haper Collins are owned by the same company
News Corp.

So what we are looking at here is seeing mooselips all over Fox/GVS in February (sweeps, again..like with the timing of Bristol's interview) promoting her book. So it will be the Faux news base of freaks that will be out buying her book.
How exactly does she plan on justifying doing a book tour when the time comes? Let me guess: "I was in (insert city/state name) to promote Alaskan (insert whatever industry) and they just HAPPENED to ask me about my new book...so it's OK that I sent the travel/lodging bill to AK taxpayers, you betcha"
I'm still betting that she resigns as AK gov, publishes the book, and then milks the book until she announces she is running in 2012.

has already arranged the purchase of a couple of truckloads in order to make the thing a 'bestseller' before it even hits the bookstores. That's what the far right does with Coulter's books, so they've got lots of practice. Hmmm, anybody know what landfill all those books wind up in?

30. "The Audacity of Hype. Palin Signs a Book Deal. But is it Legal?" - THE MUDFLATS
http://www.themudflats.net/2009/05/12/the-audacity-of-hype-palin-signs-book-deal-but-is-it-legal/

Well she’s gone and done it. She’s had them written about her, she’s tried to get some pulled of library shelves, but now the Governor will have one of her very own. A book!

Reports are now out that Sarah Palin has signed a deal with HarperCollins.

“There have been so many things written and said through mainstream media that have not been accurate, and it will be nice through an unfiltered forum to get to speak truthfully about who we are and what we stand for and what Alaska is all about,” Palin said in an interview today in which she announced the deal.

I guess that means when we go to Barnes & Noble, we’ll be findng it in the fiction section. Or humor, perhaps.

So, how much is she getting? We’d heard rumors of $11 million when chatter of a book deal was first bandied about months ago. Then she laughed that off. Then we heard $7 million. So what is it? Palin’s not saying.

“The idea is to focus on the content of the book and what’s coming in terms of me being able to tell my story unrestrained and unfiltered,” Palin said.

So the amount of the deal (which she’ll have to disclose anyway next March on her financial disclosure forms), would distract from the content of the book which hasn’t been written yet? Apparently so, according to Palin.

And what about those of you who are saying, “Hey, wait a minute now. What about that clause in the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act that says:

‘The head of a principal executive department (the governor) of the state (Alaska) may not accept employement (being an author under contract) for compensation (money) outside the agency that the executive head serves (being the governor of the state of Alaska)?’”

<SNIP>

Here’s a little 60 second dramatization to clarify that for those of you who are still confused.

Alaskans: But Governor, you’re not supposed to have another paying job while you’re the governor. See? (we hold up the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act and point)

SP: But the paying job won’t interfere with my duties.

Alaskans: But you’re not supposed to HAVE another paying job.

SP: But other people have done it in other states, and in other positions.

Alaskans: But our ethics act says you're not supposed to have another paying job while you’re governor of Alaska!

SP: But I’m only going to work at my other paying job after hours. You know, like moonlighting!

Alaskans: But you’re not supposed to have ANY other paying job while you’re the governor!

SP: I’ll just be jotting thoughts in my own words… And you don’t even have to know how much I’m making.

Alaskans: But you’re NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE ANY OTH…. Does anyone have any whiskey?

(whiskey break)

<SNIP>

I think the GOP would be more than comic relief if they ran the ghostwriters instead.
