Pope Calls for Support of the Family as Union of Man and Woman
VATICAN CITY (AP) - Pope John Paul II called Thursday for the support of the "authentic" Christian family, which he defined as based on marriage between men and women.
The pope did not specifically mention his opposition to gay marriage, but his speech to parish priests in Rome made clear he considers matrimony a bond between a man and a woman.

Recalling his years as a cleric in his native Poland, John Paul said, "I learned some time ago, when I was in Krakow, to live close to couples, to families. I also closely followed the path that led two persons, a man and a woman, to create a family and, with marriage, to become spouses and parents, with all the consequences we know so well."

"Our theme is the family," he told the priests. "Family means: 'And He created them man and woman.'"

The pope urged the priests to teach young people "to understand and appreciate the real meaning of love and to prepare themselves to form authentic Christian families."

4. Besides the fact that the authentic Biblical family had multiple wives
not to mention a few eunichs thrown in there - why doesn't his holiness spend some more time worrying about those directly under his care - like covering up for some pedophile priests - instead of sniffing around in my sheets.

5. the real meaning of love. He should learn what it is first

before he goes spewing this crap for the rigid thinkers of the world.

"authentic" who the fuck is he to say.

Don't tell me he's been speaking to God again.

6. It is hard to take this seriously when
none of those making these proclamations have ever been married. I just wonder how they could know the "real meaning of love" without ever being married or having a relaionship with a woman they love. It just seems improbable to me.

7. Why can't he back off for a while?
The Pope knows Bush is evil and must be defeated.
Why can't he just say something like, "only God can judge
the intent of the human heart," or some such thing.
This is no time to be fanning the flames of the Crusade.

8. Out of touch with reality
The Pope/Vatican is no longer relevant and is now taking sides with the bad guys.

I am afraid the the Catholic church is what is no longer "authentic".

10. Catholic teaching
homosexuality is a grave sin, but only if done with someone of age and consenting.

11. I highly doubt
if most people pay much attention to what the Pope says anyway. His views on love, marriage, sex, etc. are irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. Start by cleaning up your own house of pedophiles first.

12. He's Entitled to His Opinion...
...but it should not be binding on non-Catholics.

And the government has no business dictating what religions can acept as marriage. That's a violation of the First Amendment.
