White House's limits upset 9/11 panel...
Washington -- President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney have placed strict limits on the private interviews they will grant to the federal commission investigating the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, saying they will meet only with the panel's top two officials and that Bush will submit to only a single hour of questioning, panel members said Wednesday.

(snip)

A White House spokeswoman, Erin Healy, would not offer details of the administration's reasoning in trying to limit the meeting to Kean and Hamilton. Healy said she was unaware that the White House had wanted to limit the president's interview to one hour.

4. Can you IMAGINE....
If Clinton or Gore or ANY Democrat decided that THEY alone were going to determine the length and depth of private interviews with a FEDERAL commission? Republicans would start every sentence with it. Can you imagine the screaming? The accusations? The investigations?

Clinton/Gore agree to meet with all 10 commisioners, no strings attached (presumably under oath). Bush/Cheney will only meet with the Chairman & Vice-Chairman, and not under oath.

No one can dispute that Bush/Cheney have something to hide and Clinton/Gore doesn't.

Now... why would Bush/Cheney go to the lengths they have gone, including coaching Hastert to "deny" entension of the 9-11 commission while the WH "pleads" for the extension? An extension they were previously opposed to! They're covering something up. Something big. LIHOP or MIHOP...

11. Ooops!
I forgot that I read that here: NJ.com:Opposition intensifies to pleas of 9/11 panel

<snip>
The commission yesterday asked Bush, Cheney and Rice to reconsider, but the White House said their decisions stand. Former Bill President Clinton and former Vice President Al Gore have agreed to a private meeting with the full panel.

8. Only 1 hr of questioning? Are you telling me that a civil lawsuit against
the President of the United States has more disclosure authority than a President-appointed commission?

Well, of course it would, wouldn't it?

So let's sue Dick and Bush-boy.

9. They want to use 9-11 to get elected---
the GOP convention will be in NYC precisely to milk that for all it's worth. But the investigation is less important than WHAT? "executive privilege"? protecting the guilty, more like.

I am incoherent with rage! Is there nothing at all that can be done? Except what Bob Kerrey says he may do--quit the commission in protest? Is that the only recourse? I have no idea how these power games are played--but is there any chance at all that *BushCo won't get away with this, as with everything else??? They don't even PRETEND to care about what their uncooperativeness looks like. Do they feel THAT sure that they will get away with it all? I feel sick with despair about this and so much else....

12. I see a backlash coming in NYC and from an unexpected source.
I have a theory that Bush and Cheney were not present at the last WTC memorial, not for the reasons they gave, but because they were not wanted by the survivors of the WTC. The organizers were probably afraid that the parents, siblings and other family members would direct their anger at the president and vice-president, for reasons that we are all familiar with.

So, why would the GOP convention be any different? I see the survivors coming out in droves to protest his presence, especially in light of the little cooperation he has been giving this 9/11 investigation.
