Nighthorse Campbell hospitalized
http://www.insidedenver.com/drmn/state/article/0,1299,DRMN_21_2685028,00.html

Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell is said to be resting comfortably after experiencing "mild chest pains" Thursday morning and checking himself in to a Washington, D.C., hospital.

His office released a brief statement Thursday saying he was expected to be released and resume normal duties soon.

"As a precautionary measure, this morning Senator Campbell checked himself in to George Washington Hospital after experiencing mild chest pains," said the release by spokeswoman Kate Dando. "Initial diagnosis indicates the source of pain is non-cardiac."

"Senator Campbell is resting comfortably. Upon completion of a thorough evaluation, he is expected to resume normal Senate activities later this week."

1. Well, that's a no-brainer
"Initial diagnosis indicates the source of pain is non-cardiac."

Good luck to the Senator with his recovery, but I could have made that diagnosis without seeing him. One must have a heart to suffer a heart-attack.

4. I hope he doesn't
He is the only Native American we have in the Senate! We need more diversity!

6. Diversity, yes, but at what cost?
We don't have any Muslims in the Senate either, yet I see few mobilizing to write-in Osama bin Laden's name. Nighthorse Cambell isn't Bin Laden by any means, but he is a staunch Republican and I think all Americans - including Native Americans - would benefit from having fewer of them in the Senate.

7. We Don't Need Campbell
He turned his back on the Democrats by switching parties after the 1994 elections. And he's turned his back on thousands of COloradans ever since.

I'm all for diversity. But there's gota be a more deserving Native American than Ben Nightmare Campbell. Besides, he's only part Native American - he's mostly Portuguese. There are schools in this country that require you to have X amount of Native American blood for admission - Campbell doesn't qualify for admission.

9. Ah, but we don't have

any Portuguese-American Senators other than Campbell, so we have to keep him around for diversity's sake.

Right?

12. Absolutely NOT!!!!
Ben Nightmare Campbell is a thoroughly useless turd of a human being, and a sorry excuse for a Senator.

11. Political Convenience
Ben Campbell is one-sixteenth Native American. But he has played it up for the political advantage it gives him.

One could say the Ben Campbell is to Native Americans what Clarence Thomas is to African Americans.

Diverstiy is important when it is meaningful. A "Native American" Senator that votes for 99 percent of Bush's policies is no different in substance than a "Nordic American" representative that votes for 99 percent of Bush policies.

Sadly, the Democrats are about to shaft a good, progressive candidate they have for this race --- in favor of another Republ-ocrat multimillionaire candidate. This is why the Green Party will continue to grow and thrive.

3. how quickly we forget
Glen Nighthorse Campbell was absolutely *shocked* by the SOTU address and the exposure of the lies that followed.

Now he is under investigation ... *duh* Maybe this the stress from all of this garbage is what led to him being hospitalized.

I frankly hope he does recover. I don't find him to be "heartless" - he realizes that ol' whiteyes hath lied again to the redman.

Good for him!!!

8. "ol' whiteyes hath lied again to the redman"--are you for real?
That is a pretty condescending statement, as Nighthorse Campbell is nothing if not a savvy politician. Yes, we are all for diversity, but none of us are bigoted enough to support someone just because of what color they are. Campbell is just another republican politician who sees which way the wind is blowing, and bends accordingly. I wish him no harm, but I will be glad to see him replaced by a Democrat.

13. Me too....
I'd like someone who protects Indian rights and land. Their waste and water systems are medieval. The prisoners in this country live better...did he say that!!!

I called his office to find out about donating to Indian funds and got no answer!!

10. Lucky for Ben he doesn't have to worry about paying for his care.
I wonder what my share of costs would be for checking myself into a hospital for chest pain and it turned out to be non-life threatening.

And for those of you wanting diversity, Mike Miles is running to replace Nightmare. And Mike is a real Democrat. West Point Grad. Diplomat. Teacher.

Beats the snot out of a long-haired, Harley-riding turncoat.

18. They're out.
Not interested. Miles actually looks pretty good. The Dems just need to get over the idea a candidate needs his own megabucks or is on old pol. Miles has good grass roots and has a fresh, progressive appeal.

21. Never met him, but heard about him on the radio, and have read about him.
We need more people like him in Congress. He's not rich or powerful. He was born dirt poor. Worked hard in school. Got into West Point. Served heroically in the military. Went on to serve in the diplomatic service, and now is in education.

I wish he'd ran against Allard. I would've loved seeing Allard try to mud-sling against him.
