Miss California to star in TV ad from conservative group
Source: CNN

WASHINGTON (CNN) – Carrie Prejean, the Miss USA contestant from California who famously declared her opposition to same sex marriage on the pageant stage, will star in a new $1.5 million ad campaign funded by the National Organization for Marriage.

Prejean was roasted by same-sex marriage advocates after she stood up for what she called "opposite marriage" (marriage between a man and a woman) when responding to a question from celebrity blogger Perez Hilton during the pageant. But she's also become a fresh-faced standard-bearer for the same-sex marriage opponents, who have rallied to her defense.

The National Organziation for Marriage has scheduled a press conference with Prejean in Washington on Wednesday to unveil the new ad, called "No Offense."

"She is attacked viciously for having the courage to speak up for her truth and her values," the group said in a press release. "But Carrie's courage inspired a whole nation and a whole generation of young people because she chose to risk the Miss USA crown rather than be silent about her deepest moral values."

That's not a sexist comment by the way, but more a practical one. Hustler would love to outbid to get her just so they could say they got Miss "Same Sex Marriage", nothing else.

4. I'm surprised...
...this isn't a violation of pageant rules or something.

I know they do charity work and stuff, but I thought politics/controversial crap was off-limits while they were wearing their 'crown' or whatever.

21. She didn't win
So she doesn't have a crown. I'm no expert, but I'd be surprised if there was a rule barring losing contestants from doing and saying whatever the hell they like.

26. She does have a crown. She's Miss California and there are rules dictating their behavior.
In return for "scholarships," winners of these pageants agree to work for the pageant for a year, making public appearances, advocating for charitable causes, and staying away from controversy. She's Miss California and I'm sure that the state pageant people are very unhappy with her behavior.

51. I'm sure they are, but there's no way they'll pull her crown over those remarks
If the Miss California USA pageant (there are two Miss Californias--Miss California USA, who can go on to be Miss USA (assuming something doesn't stand in her way like...well, you know, a prettier girl than Miss Proposition 8 there) and ultimately vie for the crown of Miss Universe; and Miss California, who can go on to be Miss America) pulls her crown, every fundamentalist in America will start screaming for blood because, after all, Carrie Prejean would have lost her crown only because of her Religious Views. Which, unfortunately, would be the case.

Little Carrie will evaporate in three weeks. Ignore her and it will happen in two weeks.

53. Hmmm...
She was so upset that her comment had cost her "her" crown. Note the phrasing: not 'the' crown, but hers.
I don't pay attention to the meat parade pageantry circuit, but it's my understanding that it's nobody's crown until the judges have voted and it's placed upon the agreed-upon bubblehead. Then it's HER crown...right?

If she's upsetting the state pageant people of California, then maybe there's a possibility that she could lose 'her' crown in truth.
Ruh-roh...
She should have just taken the 'martyr's crown' quietly and gracefully rather than whining and kicking up such a fuss.
It would have made a much bigger and more dignified (read: ADULT) impression.
As it is, she's going to make a splash in the puddle, have maybe another 15 minutes of fame, and by this time next year, it's going to be "Who was she?"

It might be against their rules for her to endorse one political side or another using her "title". But it has never been against the rules of any beauty pageant to be ignorant.

69. I think the rule
should be on what the judges are allowed to ask. I mean... if she said "I support gay marriage" she would have alienated the Christian Right crowd. She said what she did and she alienated the other side of the issue. She couldn't win either way. A non-answer would have pissed off both sides. So she stuck to her beliefs.
SO I think the fault likes in the judge's question. Keep the political questions out of the pageant.

11. The Road To Fame Is Through Expressing Conservative Values In A Public Forum Where.......
Faux & the Conservatives can use you as a spokesperson for their failing cause. Think Joe the Plumber and now this chick. If you want your 15 minutes of fame and to make a few bucks in the process and then maybe write a book about it - just go out and spew conservative values somewhere where you can be caught on film. Maybe even start a YouTube program and say the most outlandish things about Dems, Obama and any high focus group like the middle class, poor, immigrants, gays, etc.

"Carrie's courage inspired a whole nation and a whole generation of young people because she chose to risk the Miss USA crown..."

LOL! It's a beauty contest for God's sake! "Risking" the Miss USA crown is hardly an act of "courage." Courage is risking your life in Afghanistan or rushing into a burning building to save a person's life, not getting a bikini wax and strutting half naked on television vying for a beauty contest "crown!"

63. truthiness
1. truthiness (noun)
1 : "truth that comes from the gut, not books" (Stephen Colbert, Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report," October 2005)
2 : "the quality of preferring concepts or facts one wishes to be true, rather than concepts or facts known to be true" (American Dialect Society, January 2006)

64. So if Ann Coulter quickened the conservaguys' pulses,
this lady will be able to get a rise outta them. A conservastar is born! I think "Courageous Carrie" will join the stable of fake mavericketttes alongside Ann and Sarah. Seems a good strategy for PR-- get the young guys over to the party/belief system by sex appeal instead of by appealing to reason.

I wasn't inspired by her, so she missed this part of the whole nation. Turning a televised moral faux pas into star power. Amazing.
