By TOM RAUM, Associated Press Writer – 28 mins ago
WASHINGTON – Federal officials warned on Tuesday that swine-flu related deaths were likely in the United States as the disease that killed scores in Mexico continued to spread across the world and governments intensified steps to battle the outbreak.
The number of confirmed cases in the United States was raised to 64, but states and cities were reporting more suspected cases. In New York, the city's health commissioner said "many hundreds" of schoolchildren were ill at a school where some students had confirmed cases.
President Barack Obama asked Congress for $1.5 billion in emergency funds to fight the fast-spreading disease.

1. Shame it got into the school system so fast.
Children are like cute little nuclear powered germ vectors.

3. My daughter is five. Some of the stuff I see her do makes me cringe.
Good god, they put their mouths on everything. And then they put their hands on everything. And put their hands in their mouths. And all over each other...

5. Yeah I mostly don't even try any more. If she's got it, I'm exposed.
There's just no way to prevent it. Maybe when she's older.

6. Yep.
I have 3 kids in school right now. I've drilled into them over and over the importance of washing hands (for the whole abc song). The second they walk in the door from school, they've been taught to go straight to the bathroom to wash their hands.
Doesn't matter. This winter we've ALL had norovirus, strep throat, numerous colds, at least one other stomach bug and I had one flu so bad, I ended up in the ER not being able to breathe. Did 2 breathing treatments and was sent home on antibiotics and inhaled steroids (that didn't help much). I'm totally freaked about this flu, because I'm pretty sure I'll get it. I get everything. And this winter I was the sickest out of them all. ugh.
I find the years that are the worst are the years I have one in Kindy, and sure enough this year I do. :eyes:

7. One of the biggest probs I have is that some people are not serious about it
and I have many of them around me. This is very scary to me since they will not even think about it at all.
