Clear Channel says NO to indecency
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/02/25/entertainment/main602251.shtml

(AP) Radio giant Clear Channel Communications Inc. on Wednesday announced a "zero-tolerance" broadcast policy designed to keep indecent material off the airwaves of its 1,200 or so radio stations.

Im guessing in their minds indecency = anything Liberal and decent = anything that will make a ton of money.

3. Note the last two paragraphs...
If you work for the Clear Channel Mafia, and the FCC busts down the door, you'r on your own, DJ-Boy! The real hipocracy was that Bubba the Love Sponge was a regular CC Darling...until the Feds dropped the Fine on them.

4. Some things you can't say in hip hop music.
Clitoris. Nipple. Weed. High. Smoke. Bitch. Ho. Ass.

Meanwhile, Eric Clapton can sing all he wants to about how much he loves cocaine. Pink Flloyd can say "shit." The Dire Straits can rant about "faggots", and Jim Morrison can rape his mother and kill his father.

I wonder why this is.

5. Sometimes it's just not decent...
Bubba the Love Sponge, a Florida radio personality fired by Clear Channel, castrated and slaughtered a pig during one live broadcast. He was charged with, but acquited of animal cruelty.

I listened a few times to Bubba as I drove some kids to summer school programs and they flicked around the dial, and that was enough for me. Shock jocks are not usually liberal, in my opinion - to me, they represent everything cheesy and shallow about our culture. Their sexual snickerings and obnoxious, sub-juvenile humor are fine for people who like that sort of stuff. They are not fine for some kids.

My opinions about this sometimes sets me apart from most DU'ers. I don't particularly like that their shows are broadcast during hours when lots of kids hear them. My fifth graders through the years often listen to this kind of entertainment, and many of them don't have the experience and discretion to understand that this over-the-top, insulting brand of humor can hurt other kids when it's imitated.

How about if their parents just turn off the show? Doesn't happen in too many cases!

6. But it says nothing about station web-sites
You should check out the websites of ClearChannel rock stations...

I came to this knowledge because my son is a DJ at a ClearChannel station in the midwest...

I'd give you a link but with respect to not blowing his cover that's not the way.

7. Hummm...our local Clear Channel LOVES to play the "pussy" song
"Hot, wet, bald pussy...He's a friendly little cat" Bob and Tom Show in the morning. Nothing indecent about that song, huh?

Make their lives hell.

edit: Exerpt from the clearcharnel radio page: In addition to the reach of our own 1200 stations, Clear Channel’s Premiere Radio Network syndicates more than 100 programs to more than 7,800 radio stations total. Premiere reaches 180 million listeners a week with its network of top #1 names including Rush Limbaugh, Dr. Laura Schlessinger, Rick Dees, Casey Kasem, Jim Rome, Carson Daly and Art Bell. Premiere also broadcasts Clear Channel Entertainment concerts and new CD debuts, enhancing the synergies between divisions.

10. Does that mean junior and his meaning of "Intergity"...
will have "Zero-Tolerance?"

"Zero Tolerance" -- No more people dying for junior's lies, and no more Halliburton ripping off the tax-payer, and no more cronyism?

This administration and their interpretation of the word "Integrity" is twenty times more dirtier than the word "Fuck" or Janet's tit.

11. GOOD! LOL
Most of the shock jocks pandered to Herr bush and trashed Al Gore during the run up to the 2000 selection and their listeners followed right in lockstep.

The freaking fools didn't realize that the only reason they were able to express themselves the way they saw fit on the radio is because the RW "religious police" weren't in control.

In any case I am glad their ignorant ill informed support of bush co. is coming right back to bite them in the ass!

13. Actually theyre' just using this as an excuse for politicall censorship
They've suspended Howard Stern - supposedly because a caller (a plant?) used the "N" word - but also this week Howard also tore Bush apart for about an hour.

How about supporting good old freedom of speech on The People's airwaves - and let the people figure out what they like and don't like and what they believe and don't believe.

That's how the Internet works - and it's the most interesting, most truth-telling media ever invented.

Nobody takes corporate media seriously anymore. We all know it's biased and censored.

Clear Channel is the new Pravda.
