Kirkuk bomb flattens police station
Tuesday 24 February 2004

Two bombers have blown up a car in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk killing 13 police officers.

The bombers blew up their explosives-laden car at a police station in a Kurdish neighbourhood of the oil-rich city of Kirkuk on Monday.

Around three dozen police officers were seriously injured in addition to the deaths, police and medical sources said.

Dr Hashim Muhammad of Azadi hospital said the two bombers were also incinerated by the blast.

Almost nothing was left of three of the policemen, he said.

The explosion in the Rahimawa neighbourhood occurred at 08:30 (05:30 GMT) as 400 policemen changed shifts, said the station chief Colonel Adil Zain al-Abidin Ibrahim.

Ahem, excuse me? Has anyone noticed that civil war has broken out in Iraq?

2. This news is over 40 hours old now

3. Al Qaeda claims Kirkuk attack
DUBAI, Feb 24: A group, Ansar Al Sunna, with alleged links to Al Qaeda network, claimed responsibility on Tuesday for the suicide bombing at a police station in Kirkuk which killed seven policemen and wounded 46 other people.

"We herald you with another victory over the apostates and agents in one of their dens of evil and corruption in the city of Kirkuk," said the statement sent to the London-based Islamic Observatory Centre for Human Rights.

"One of our martyr brothers has detonated a car bomb at the Rahimawa police station inflicting, with God's aid, the enemy with the following casualties: more than 30 policemen killed and 55 injured."

8. As long as there is no other way to make money
Iraqis will keep signing up and effectively sign their own death warrants. But that's what the neo-cons want, less brown people.
