Bush Warns Haitians Against Fleeing to U.S. (ABC News)
http://abcnews.go.com/wire/US/reuters20040225_362.html

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush warned Haitians on Wednesday against trying to flee to the United States and said he would support an international security force but only once a political deal was reached between Haiti's embattled government and advancing rebels.

Speaking in the White House Oval Office, he also said he had instructed the U.S. Coast Guard to "turn back any refugee" from Haiti who seeks to land on U.S. shores

Have a couple minutes while lunch, but wanted to post this. Looks like * is really trying to shore up his white supremacist base.

What the hell happened to this country? We used to welcome folks fleeing oppression and death.

What a complete and total ass-wipe.

We turn away a people trying to run from a horrible life in Hati, yet let Mexicans stay with amnesty so they don't have to go back.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY HATIANS ARE ANY DIFFERENT THAN MEXICANS??????

Why are Haitians different from Mexicans?
Because Haitians are black.

Racism is rampant in the Repug ranks, especially against blacks.

12. Oh, I think it's also because the Imperials view the Hispanic population
as easy marks.

After all, the Busheviks have their hunky Latino Emperor-in-Waiitng George P. Caligula.

There are other reasons, but you get the idea. The "amnesty" was purely political without regard for the National Good.

Like EVERYTHING (at least I have yet to see something that helped the nation rather than the Imperial Cronies) the Busheviks do.

27. They haven't got over that uprising in the 1800's
when the slaves rose up against their cruel masters. It's was the beginning of the end for those slave holders in the south when word got out that it happened. Those now free Hatians came here and got the south's slaves to thinking that they could do it too and of course Mr. Whitey was so scared and went sobbing to Washington. Yep, they're still smarting over that one.

5. Absolutely right!
If they were Cubans, they would get instant legal status, work visa, green card, Section 8 taxpayer subsidized housing, food stamps, medical care, education assistance, social security, etc., etc.

Haitians are just outta luck that they get thrown back, after traveling 600 to 700 miles in their rickety boats, rather than the 90 miles from Cuba.

6. Hate to be cynical
but do you think the Cubans are welcome because they support the Re-puritans, while the Haittians are turned away because they have the gaul of voting against Mein Fuhrer

14. Not TOO cynical. Just the right level of cynicism.
Bush makes continual pilgrimages to Florida to schmooze with his beloved Cuban "exiles" in Miami. He's made over 20 trips there since he became the pResident.

His dad was also involved with Cuban "exiles" during the Bay of Pigs.
Their association with Republicans goes back a long time, through Ronald Reagan, to Richard Nixon, and Watergate. (Shudder)

4. I guess the inscription
on the Statue of Liberty means nothing.

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the goden door!"

29. Well, you obviously . . .
. . . haven't read the fine print on that statue.:eyes:

I believe there's a wee tiny disclaimer at the bottom of the "Give me your tired . . ." section that begins with, "Unless they are black or from Haiti or any combination thereof in which case . . .".

8. Why prepare Gitmo then?
Which there were stories about earlier.

Of course "turning away" amounts to death by drowning, so it's probably bs even for our pResidential scumbag.

18. I think going to Gitmo
means the same as turning away? This is what they did the last time the Haitians were flooding Miami.

25. Ah, right.
I was conflating Gitmo with being US soil/US control. So 'turn away' means imprison/detain--not drown or sent to be shot. Will add that to my doublespeak for dummies dictionary.

and at the same time he is worried that Haitians washing up on Florida beaches will draw attention away from his propaganda campaign. Wouldn't do any good for his Florida poll numbers either.

15. Aristade is a dictator
but apparently not as much of a threat to the United States as Saddam...despite the fact that Haiti is located much, much closer to us!
I think Aristade needs to go and Haiti needs help. I'm angry the US has done next to nothing for the poorest country in our hemisphere.

let's use this example as a great hypocrisy in BushCo's foreign policy. Some dictators good, some dictators bad, some dictators need to go, some dictators are protected by the US.

It's the Bush way! And it's total BS!

Edited on Wed Feb-25-04 03:46 PM by DoYouEverWonder
continues to astound me. We are spending over a billion a week to rebuild a country that doesn't want us on their soil, yet we don't have the time of day or a place for the Haitians who are begging us for help?

what would happen if we got word to them to come anyway, and had whichever democratic presidential candidate that was available welcome them to shore. Would * open fire on Wesley Clark, Howard Dean, Richard Gepharsr, Al Sharpton, etc. Well, you get the idea. Isn't it time we called them on their inhumanity to man?

Not that the Gang that Couldn't Admini-straight cares about what Democrats have to say.
