Napolitano's comments about Canada's border sparks diplomatic kerfuffle
Source: The Canadian Press.

WASHINGTON — A diplomatic skirmish broke out Tuesday over suggestions by Janet Napolitano, the U.S. homeland security secretary, that terrorists have routinely entered the United States through Canada, including the perpetrators of the Sept. 11 attacks. Napolitano's remarks in an interview earlier this week have angered some Canadians and prompted the normally reserved Canadian ambassador to the United States, Michael Wilson, to forcefully set the record straight.

As the keynote speaker at the Border Trade Alliance meeting in Washington, Wilson said he was "frustrated" that the 9-11 myth has resurfaced once again, almost eight years after the terrorist attacks.

"Unfortunately, misconceptions arise on something as fundamental as where the 9-11 terrorists came from," Wilson said.

"As the 9-11 commission reported in 2004, all of the 9-11 terrorists arrived in the United States from outside North America. They flew to major U.S. airports. They entered the U.S. with documents issued by the United States government and no 9-11 terrorists came from Canada."

4. To be fair, ruffling Canadian feathers is not the same as having people die for lack of drinking
water.

8. By dumping on our good (great?) neighbor to the north?
She's no diplomat. Perhaps she'll grow in to the job. Someday.

13. because she's painfully ignorant?
That's the only explanation I can think of. That, or she's a liar who's way too stupid to know that she'll be caught in her lies within seconds. In either case, she's demonstrated herself to be woefully unqualified for the job she now holds.

11. Keep the 9/11 lie coming
Janet. Some countries aren't going to just go along this time. Re-Investigate 9/11 before we start pointing fingers.

14. ...in an interview with CBC journalist Neil MacDonald...
...he said in response (paraphrasing) "Are you referring to the 9-11 hijackers?", and she said "Not only them" and then carried on with other b.s.

NOT ONLY THEM???? How about NONE of them? ZERO, NADA, ZILCH!! Wake up lady!!! It's been 7 and a half years and you still either don't know that NONE of the 9-11 hijackers entered the U.S. from Canada or you are just choosing to repeat a lie!

Whichever the case....get your motherfucking act together because you are not only pissing off Canada (the country with the 3rd highest Afghanistan and/or Iraq war mortality/casualty rate behind the U.S. and the U.K.), you are also embarrassing yourself!!

15. Seconded.
WHY is Napolitano spouting some of THE WORST RW propaganda?

We had to fight off this meme of "terrorists from Canada" right after 9/11 and some are STILL saying it.

And now a DEMOCRATIC CABINET MEMBER is repeating it?

16. how disappointing

For some reason I thought she must be a very smart woman to get such an important post in the Obama administration.

My jaw dropped when I read the full article; she sounds like one of those nut-bars from a Palin rally. Un-freaking-believable!

18. USA's homeland security secretary said this? - boy, is the USA in trouble . .
.
.
.

If their "homeland security" people are so disillusioned/misinformed;

then the USA is pretty defenseless when it comes to "intelligence"

But I think we already knew that . .

USA's so called "intelligence" gathering agencies are a joke world-wide . .

but not really - as in "funny" joke - SICK joke is more like it . .

just ask Iraqis, the ones still alive that is . . .

(sigh)

19. She's an embarasement to the office she holds
As head of DHS she doesn't even know the details of how the perps of 9/11 got into the country, and opts some for low hanging political expediency.

Clearly the first candidate up for cabinet shuffle unless Geittner beats her to the door.

20. I disagree.
She was a very popular and effective Governor of Arizona and Obama made a good choice in getting her. I'll write this off as an embarrassing stumble, probably done to deflect criticism of only targeting Mexico. She's wrong about the 9/11 hijackers, of course, but not wrong on the more general theory that others could enter. It's not a wrong headed move to look at securing both borders, as well as ports and all other points of entry.

Now Geitner on the other hand...
