Court OKs Denial of Divinity Scholarships
""Training someone to lead a congregation is an essentially religious endeavor," Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist wrote for the court majority. "Indeed, majoring in devotional theology is akin to a religious calling as well as an academic pursuit."

The case is a departure from recent church-state fights in which the Supreme Court has gradually allowed greater state sponsorship of religious activities. Rehnquist is usually a supporter of that idea."

Maybe there is some hope for this SC in actually upholding the constitution.

1. I see that Scalia and Thomas dissented and Scalia wrote the opinion for
Thomas and himself. Why doesn't Thomas just take a lomg vacation and let Scalia vote for the both of them? Thomas is Scalia's shadow.

5. Those two are on the wrong side of every decision.
Even when the 7 others agree, there they are, out on the fringe, upholding ideology over law. They need to die in some horribly discrediting way. Given Thomas's penchant for porn, autoerotic axphyxiation comes to mind. Maybe Scalia could "get" AIDS.

6. Which is why they have bypassed the courts
And are going for an Amendment to ban gay marriage. If the issue ever made it to the SCOTUS, I'm pretty sure they would uphold gay marriage. Solution: Change the Constitution.

2. Interesting
>Maybe there is some hope for this SC in actually upholding the constitution.<

The student in question went to my (I reluctantly admit,) alma mater, Northwest College in Kirkland, WA. I was intrigued to see that he is now a law student at Harvard.

He must have figured out that law students make an awful lot more money than pastoral staff.

3. For those desiring a cite:
The case is Locke v. Davey, 02-1315.

I am going to look it up later. I find it humorous that they aregued that it voilated his constitutional right to worship FREELY ...guess they meant free of charge rather than freedom of practice.
