Marriage amendment is a hit in Austin
Texas lawmakers would likely approve measure if it can get out of Washington

AUSTIN -- Odds are good the current Texas Legislature would back a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage should Washington unite on the issue.

Last spring, the state's first Republican-dominated Legislature in modern times passed its own "defense of marriage" act by hefty margins.

Senate Bill 7, sponsored by Sen. Jeff Wentworth, R-San Antonio, and Rep. Warren Chisum, R-Pampa, states that Texas will not recognize same-sex marriages or civil unions performed in other states.

"The bill virtually stopped gay marriage from being recognized in the state of Texas," Chisum said Tuesday. "Our statute says one man, one woman."

1. I am sure a lot of states would pass this.
Re-call Women one did not get in, and either did children's work one. I do not think it could get passed all the states. And if it does I will take bets on Bush trying some more in the same vain on personal morals. The Christian right way. Is that not scary to you?

9. Is English your second language, because I can't follow your post.
Excuse me if it is, I am sure I couldn't do any better if I tried to use my limited knowledge of spanish to write a post. I just lost you at "Re-call Women one did not get in, and either did children's work one."

If you are English speaking, you should try the new "check spelling" feature they have installed. It helps me alot.

4. Well, less of *OUR* style of government, but more of *THEIRS*.
The Brown Shirts will be issued soon (but made in China, no doubt).

5. I think there are going to be states
falling all over each other to be the first to ratify, if it gets through Congress.

Their bigotry makes me sick.

6. so the states vote on it...
...after the House and Senate?

If so, we should try to keep it bottled up in the house (senate more likely) before it gets to the state. 38 (or 34) states already have DOMA like laws...so I guess, they will approve this amendment too.

7. I object to the headline, which associates the Rep. leg. with AUSTIN
Two VERY different animals. It's done to emphasize the dominance of the repugs over the liberal elements in Tx.
