WP: Tenet Warns of Al Qaeda Threat
CIA Chief Says Group Is Fragmented but Still Dangerous

Wednesday, February 25, 2004; Page A01

Despite U.S. success in attacking al Qaeda's hierarchy, the network is still capable of "catastrophic attacks" against the United States, and acquiring chemical, biological and radiological weapons remains a "religious obligation" in Osama bin Laden's eyes, CIA Director George J. Tenet told the Senate intelligence committee yesterday.

The U.S. assault on al Qaeda has "transformed the organization into a loose collection of regional networks working autonomously," Tenet said. The smaller groups "pick their own targets, they plan their own attacks," but they share an anti-American goal.

The most immediate threats include the possibility of "poison attacks" and al Qaeda's ongoing effort to produce anthrax material, he said: "Extremists have widely disseminated assembly instructions for an improvised chemical weapon using common materials that could cause a large number of casualties in a crowded, enclosed area."

"We are still at war against a movement," said Tenet, appearing with other administration officials to discuss global security threats. "People who say it's exaggerated don't look at the same world I look at. It's not going away anytime soon."

1. Prediction
I predict a major attack sometime in August... perhaps linked to a political convention, though nor directly... just in time to grab headlines... wait, the crystal ball is going cloudy... someone stepping through the mists... it's... it's...

... John Ashcroft! NOOOooooooo!

3. All the Bush* apologists are out there
saying, "Well, we haven't had an attack since 9/11, have we?" They could be proven wrong. It's a stupid thing to say.

6. Actually, Tenet is a long-time CIA employee with heavy credentials...
...in the intelligence world along with strong bipartisan support, as well as allies in the DOJ, FBI, NSA, and Pentagon.

If he says there might be a problem, I would tend to listen to what he has to say.

Don't forget that the NeoCons are trying to make him the fall-guy for the falsified Iraqi WMD intelligence.

5. I am still trying to figure out if...
a. Al Qaeda really exists.
and
b. If it does exist, why are we treating them like a country?

how can one be tried for espionage for a shadowy group of nut jobs hiding in some of the most remote mountains in the world? Where is their embassy? How do these guys contact them?

And, if OBL is so hard to get to, how come these rather minor players here and there are able to meet him in person?

8. You know I have often wondered if Al Qaeda existed
I think it is just a pet name for the anti-neo/cons. Al Qaeda hates us for our neo/cons. When I heard Tenet on NPR, I was doing the cuss at the radio thingy Al Qaeda/Smeada. This bogeyman is about worn out and when they take Osama out of his hole (if they do) a new bogeyman will be needed.

7. Oh just shut up Tenant. "The Muslims are coming!", "The Muslims
are coming!" It is not Al Qaeda or any other Muslim "terrorists" we need to fear, it is the cabal in the WH who are the terrorists.

9. Beware the demonstration effect!
It's probably unlikely that the tiny, scattered Al Qaeda cult will be as lucky as it was the first time, no longer able to depend upon the venality and stupidity of a US airline industry which spent years blocking needed security reforms.

But that is not to say that America's most dangerous enemy - the much larger, better funded, and better armed Washington-based neocon cult - won't strike.

Our Perles and Wolfowitzes intend to remain in power, they are guided by an ethos that declares their absolute right to wage relentless war, and they have no regard for human life, including that of their own deceived, over-extended, underprotected troops. They constantly tell us that another major terrorist attack is a question of when, not if...

LIHOP II for an October surprise? If Bush is far behind in the polls at that point, I may start stockpiling canned soup. ;-)

10. Why should we believe him about this?
They are trying to claim that the cause of the missing WMD in Iraq is "faulty intelligence". So what has magically happened to make their intelligence better since then?

11. President Gore would have prevented 9/11, altogether
The Bush administration didn't give a shit about a terrorist attack until it happened.

Now they are trying to get elected on that issue alone.

It was under Clinton's watch that the Millenium Bomber was thwarted when he was trying to sneak in from Canada. Hundreds of lives were saved at the LAX airport, where this monster was heading.

If Al Gore got his rightful office, he would have taken what Clinton gave him about terrorists and kept running with it.

Instead this nitwit steals the election and tells Clinton that they don't want all his terrorist boogie man stories, they'll do it their way.

Now they almost sound like they want something bad to happen. (because it would leave Democrats flatfooted.) F'em.

I know that I shouldn't feel this way but I can't help but think of the story of the boy who cried wolf whenever I hear of these supposed terror attacks...

14. Al Qaeda doesn't exist
At least NOT as the way it's been presented to scare Americans. Do your research. IN fact, Mossad agents have been caught trying to pass themselves off as Al Qaeda.

Al Qaeda = Emmanuel Goldstein.

Notice how AQ has ONLY launched attacks that benefit Bush, and NEVER during OTHER conflicts? Notice how, when Bush needs a distraction from another scandal, AQ pops up?

NOtice how during the initial phase of GWII, AL Qaeda refrained from attacking us?

Figure it out! AQ was created by the CIA and always will. $$$$$$$. "Blowback" is a myth.

Captain Mike

16. That's why the best way to protect America
from the threat of terrorism, is to get the neo-con terrorists out of the WH. Someone needs to let Tenet know to forget about Afghanistan and Iraq, he needs to go hunting in his own backyard, DC if he wants to put a stop to terrorism.
