Maytag Announces Layoffs, Deal With Samsung (IA - 170 jobs)
http://www.theiowachannel.com/money/2871056/detail.html

NEWTON, Iowa -- About 170 production workers at Maytag learned Tuesday they will lose their jobs.

Company officials confirmed the planned layoffs due to less production of some laundry equipment at the Newton-based plant. The job cuts will start Friday.

Also Tuesday, Maytag announced a new deal with Samsung Electronics.

South-Korean based Samsung Electronics will begin manufacturing laundry products for Maytag.

The products will be marketed under the Maytag and Amana brands and will be sold through Maytag distributors later this year in U.S. and international markets.

1. You knew it had to happen
The Maytag man had such a great union no-layoff contract. But in these days of corporate downsizing, you knew the Maytag man wouldn't be safe much longer.

Sad. More bushit* outsourcing.

How is this good for the economy in the LONG RUN, President Apostate*? Economy/economics is far more than a CEO's short-term profit margin, you thickhead...

It's mind-boggling. A superpower that relies on other countries to support it... Can you spell "D I S A S T E R I N T H E M A K I N G ? ? ?"?

3. my 80 year old mother told me a good one
tonight.

She says that * is mathematically challenged.

He doesn't know how to add -- only subtract.

He has subtracted security from our country.

He has substracted the budgets and turned them into deficits.

He has subtracted 2.6+ million jobs.

He has subtracted approximately 550 of our military.

He has subtracted 15,000 Iraqis.

He has subtracted enumerable Afghanis.

He adds nothing - he subtracts everything.

5. If Bush says that unemployment is good for the economy then....
it must be so. Those "liberal" pundits on the TEEVEE said so.

(satire)

4. Ironically
I spoke with my mother Sunday night and she mentioned that my 24-year-old stepbrother (who is a salesman for Maytag and trained in Iowa) is voting for Bush. His father (my stepfather and soon to retire engineer/salesman) told him he was nuts. My stepfather mentioned how his company had been bought by a foreign company and literally cut in half since * took office. He now covers a territory that used to be covered by two people. My stepbrother said that he had nothing to worry about because salesmen can't be outsourced and that his company was strong. Maybe he'll reconsider.
