N Korea crisis talks due to begin

Talks will focus on the Yongbyon
nuclear site

Six-nation talks on the future of North Korea's nuclear programme are about to get under way in the Chinese capital, Beijing.

The multi-lateral meeting is the first since last August, when six-way talks to try to resolve the crisis ended without agreement.

Hours before the latest round, North Korea demanded compensation in exchange for freezing its nuclear activities.

A row over Pyongyang's alleged uranium programme is also threatening progress.

China has played down hopes of an imminent breakthrough, warning of a "long, drawn-out process".
