Port of Lake Charles encouraging trade with Cuba
Port of Lake Charles encouraging trade with Cuba

The Associated Press

The Port of Lake Charles has decided to explore business opportunities with Cuba and lobby Congress to ease travel and trade restrictions with that country.

The Lake Charles Port Board on Monday approved a letter of intent with Alimport, Cuba's food-import agency. Port officials met Cuban representatives at a conference on the island last December with other U.S. ports and businesses.

According to the agreement approved by the port, competitive rates will be offered to U.S. companies that do business with Alimport and use the Port of Lake Charles.

The port also will try to identify additional exporters and shippers in Louisiana and elsewhere to do business with Cuba.

The number of ports, and inland cities, and states in the country doing business with Cuba and its current government will make it a little harder, you would think, for Bush to get anyone outside Miami to support his plan for a "regime change."
