US 'Bans French Meat'
The US has decided to suspend imports of meat products from France following inspections by US vets, according to the French agriculture ministry.

It said a team from the US agriculture ministry had noted "non-conformities" in French health protection measures.

Earlier, the European Union banned the import of all US poultry after an outbreak of bird flu in Texas.

3. LOL, we in the Totalitarian World don't like the Meat of the Free World
Perhaps we'd be better off getting our beef from one of the other Totalitarian Nations on Earth besides Imperial Amerika.

12. Its not true
One hears that there are several producers of foie gras de canard (goose is not available) in New York, which you can order vauum-sealed fresh, off the internet. And they're very good. The Hungarians also make excellent foie gras. Just don't tell PETA you're consuming the product of extreme animal cruelty.

15. Actually the one I like doesn't use goose liver -- so hopefully
I'm safe. Thanks for the tip about the Hungarian product -- I'll have to investigate.

Ever since the nonsense about the French last year over the war I've made a point of buying French products. Have discovered some incredible wines and cheeses that aren't very expensive that I probably wouldn't have discovered hadn't I been doing my own private anti-boycott.

8. WTF, why? This is not titfortat. Diseased animals vs some undescribed
non-conformities? Heck, we let Tyson BP get away with non-conformities all the time for what they sell domestically.

16. US consumers need to boycott US beef and poultry
There's PLENTY of other food to eat. and you can buy organic and buy locally from the farmer. you don't HAVE to be nervous if you know where your food comes from. you have the power. Take back the food supply!

14. This is just another volley in an age-old war
The French won't import US hormone-fed beef.
We won't let in their cured meats like "saucisson" and other charcuterie meats. Don't ask me why.
For years we didn't let in any non-pasteurized cheeses but I think that has changed.

C'est bete comme mes pieds!

17. About 1 year ago,
when the first outbreak of Mad Cow disease showed up in the U.K., all of Europe had to go through a review process to see what they fed their cows and what procedures they used to ensure safety.

It turned out that the French fed and still feed their cows human waste. That's CRAP, which has been diverted from the sewer to cow feeding bins. US inspectors insisted that French farmers stop the use immediately because of sanitation issues, but they refused (being the stubborn French they are).

As far as I know, they are still continuing to feed their cows human crap. Sorry, I don't have a link...will try to find one.
