Walgreens Pulls 'Chia Obama'
Edited on Mon Apr-06-09 01:56 PM by populistdriven
Source: Wired

Walgreens is ordering the removal of the "Chia Obama" from its stores in Tampa, saying the ceramic-plant figure of the chief executive is inappropriate for sale.

Spokesman Michael Polzin told Fox 13 in Tampa that store managers have the ability to market products of their choice. But apparently the top brass of the Deerfield, Illinois-based drug chain was not amused by some of its Tampa managers' choices to market the President Obama likeness.

We can't wait to see the chain's Halloween mask lineup.

1. Wow, Walgreen's
first they offer free health services, and now they are pulling what (IMO) is a racist product. Good for them. Who knew?

8. I doubt if it was meant to be racist although I can see how
people could find it offensive, but mostly, I think it's just plain weird! lol

17. FWIW The head of the Chia company showed it to Jesse Jackson
Rev. Jackson said it was "a fine product."
So, there's *that* but personally I'm uncomfortable with it.

It was a favorite - I probably won't ever have any grandchildren because I've threatened to send this toy to any grandkids as soon as they are old enough to put those wormy entrails all over their parents nice carpet and hardwood floors - yeah, once they dried out stuck on carpet, the vacume sweeper couldn't even pick them up!

13. chia pets: lame and "poor taste" for home decorating, I suppose
but an Obama one isn't any worse than any of the others. Kinda funny, actually. I would put it out on my tacky porch. Where my ant ranch, bonanza cup, full size painted portrait of husband as a toddler (that MIL kept in her living room until she died), two mounted deer heads and a javalina from grandpas, and devo poster reside.
