Low-Carb and Other New Products Sends Heinz Earnings Upward

PITTSBURGH (AP) - New products helped H.J. Heinz Co. boost earnings by more than 33 percent in the third quarter, the company reported Tuesday.

The ketchup maker's income for the quarter ending Jan. 28 was $202.2 million, or 57 cents per share. During the same period last year, the company took a hit following the sale of its tuna, pet food and domestic baby food brands and earned $151.6 million, or 43 cents per share. The latest results were in line with the expectations of analysts polled by Thomson First Call.
