Inspectors Uncover New Nuclear Experiments in Iran, Diplomats Say
VIENNA, Austria (AP) - U.N. nuclear agency inspectors have found evidence of previously undisclosed nuclear experiments in Iran, diplomats said Tuesday. They called the discovery another possible sign that Tehran wanted to make an atomic bomb.
The diplomats, who are familiar with the International Atomic Energy Agency's efforts to lay bare Iran's nuclear program, told The Associated Press that the inspectors found signs of polonium, a radioactive element that can help trigger a nuclear chain reaction.

Iran's apparent production of the substance, and experiments with it, were to be detailed in a report that the IAEA's 35-nation board of governors will receive this week. The board meets early next month to reassess Iran's nuclear threat.

The United States and several other countries contend that Tehran is bent on making atomic arms, and one diplomat said the polonium discovery could be new evidence of that desire.
