(Sen Arlen) Specter running ads critical of Toomey
Source: Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Sen. Arlen Specter is airing TV ads that criticize former congressman Pat Toomey even before Mr. Toomey announces his candidacy for next year's Republican primary.

The ads began airing on cable TV stations across the state today.

The 30-second spots claim Mr. Toomey sold risky derivatives called "credit default swaps" as a Wall Street trader before his election to Congress in 1998. They say those derivatives caused the meltdown of the financial services industry.

Mr. Toomey says Mr. Specter has his facts wrong. He says he never sold a credit default swap because that type of derivative hadn't been invented yet.

The conservative Mr. Toomey nearly beat Mr. Specter in the 2004 Republican primary. He began seriously considering a Senate run for next year after Mr. Specter angered many Republicans by casting one of three GOP votes for the federal economic stimulus package.

1. I am going to love watching this
I'm also going to see what I can do to help Toomey win that primary. If that whackjob gets in there it's pretty much a sure Dem pickup. Fuck Specter, that POS likes to pretend he's a nice moderate puke but then just before the vote back he goes crawling to the shits that lead that cabal of assholes.

3. Hey, Toomey ... here's one you can use ...
"Specter says one thing ... then votes for the other ... when he hopes nobody's paying attention."

Let's have a far-Right loon go against moderate Right Specter ... because the nutcase wouldn't have a chance in the Gen Election ...

4. I'd like to think someone as far right as Toomey wouldn't win a GE
but Dick Santorum was elected twice.....Toomey will get absolutely clobbered in Pittsburgh & Philadelphia though for sure....Democratic candiate will certainly be favored if it's Toomey for them..

5. My favorite appellation for Specter
Senator Grandstand. The master of the "moderate" pronouncement, followed by the most reactionary vote. I used to think a light year was a great distance, but I think even greater is the distance between Specter's public quotes and actual votes. It's an inexact measure, and can't be used as a replacement for the light year (though, come to think of it, is a leap light year longer than a light year?), but it could make astronomical distances more accessible in the public mind.
