Bin Laden is alive and planning more attacks

Kabul

23 February 2004: (Mail&Guardian)

Osama bin Laden is still in Afghanistan and is planning further attacks on United States interests, a spokesperson from Afghanistan's ousted Taliban regime said on Monday.

A man, identifying himself as Taliban spokesperson Mohammed Saiful Adel, said Bin Laden's presence in Afghanistan was confirmed in a leaflet distributed to Taliban leaders in the south of the country.

The statement rubbishes claims by the US military that they are confident of capturing the al-Qaeda leader by the end of the year.

"The untrue and false propaganda that the Americans have spread about our leaders and authorities -- that they will arrest them by the end of the year -- is all nonsense," it says.

"It is part of Bush's electoral game so he can win the elections that he has spread these rumours all over the world.....

I don't know what to believe -- do we have bin Laden on ice or cornered or is he alive and well and plotting something so Bush can invoke marshall law, suspend the constitution and avoid the election or what... Too much (dis)information about on bin Laden lately. My gut tells me "SOMETHING's happening here, just what it is ain't exactly clear."

1. With Karl Rove's help, of course.
Think of it, what would be better than another big attack and then my, oh, my we catch Bin Laden? It's perfect Rove strategy.

and be ever hateful of the Evil Brotherhood.

By the way, have you heard the good news? Chocolate rations have just been raised from 30 grams a week to 20 grams a week! All hail Big Brother!

3. If he really is trapped and his number is up he could pull the trigger
Remember that Bin Laden just provides the funding and the broad outlines of attacks. He delegates out to subordinates to handle the details.

4. LOL he was "cornered in a hole, awaiting seizure" this morning

regime gunmen had him surrounded, just standing around waiting for the go signal to go pick him up.

I suspect a problem with the prosthetic nose. The one in the last video was sort of criticized in the Middle East.

5. I don't understand why Pakistan is involved so heavily in this.
The citizens are ready to hang their president for helping Bush. Anyhone know what the bribe was? You would think the citizens would riot if their president captures bin Landin. So something wierd is going on.

11. Musharraf
is probably not particularly concerned about the feelings of the Taliban/al Qaeda sympathetic public, given they came really close to assassinating him twice within the last couple of months. (The fundamentalist Muslim population in Pakistan is 15% of the total population of that country, if memory serves.)

Plus he was caught selling all that nuclear crap to the usual bad guys, and he knows that a superpower that just trashed some Arab country just for spite might not be in a forgiving mood. So maybe he will go after UBL.

A hopeful sign: Pakistan and India seem to be serious about working out a peaceful accomodation over Kashmir. I think both sides realize that they have better things to do than continue that low-level war. I think Musharraf probably knows he has no chance of improving his country unless the radicals are disarmed.

8. The hell?
How is everybody so certain the bin Laden is still alive?
What, is Bushie having intimate phone conversations with the guy?
If we have so much intelligence on his whereabouts then WHY ISN'T HE IN CUSTODY?
Gah. I might burst a vessel.

9. Isn't this a statement of the
obvious!

This just in....a woman, living in southern California's conservative Orange County, is registered, and frequently posts on, the left leaning website democratic underground. Barring any intel-ignored disaster, she plans to vote for the democratic presidential candidate in November.

What they Xpect some taliban groupie to announce they have re-examined their goals and R abandoning all terrorist activity. Now, that would B news!
