'US raid kills civilians'
Edited on Sun Mar-22-09 11:46 AM by cal04
Source: Agence France-Presse

AFGHAN officials say five men killed in a US-led raid today were all civilians, countering a statement from the military that they were militants from a "terrorist network".

The claim is the latest in a string of allegations of civilian casualties at the hands of foreign forces who are in Afghanistan to fight against insurgents, including Taliban and al-Qaeda extremists.

"Afghan and coalition forces killed five militants and detained four suspected militants early this morning in Kunduz province during an operation targeting a terrorist network in northern Afghanistan,'' the US military said.

(snip)
But provincial police chief Abdul Rehman Actash said the five men killed were civilians visiting a district mayor.

6. "Taliban raid kills children"
the under reported reality of Pakistan with a weak government in control
snip

A pickup pulled into the village square in mid-afternoon and the driver walked into a shop, asking for cigarettes. The shopkeeper's children were outside munching on candy when the truck exploded, spraying deadly shrapnel in all directions. Two children died on the spot, and a third was rushed to a hospital in Peshawar with her stomach in shreds.

"These people call themselves Taliban, but they are nothing but criminals," Rahman said over rice and meat in his shrapnel-pocked compound. "We ask the security forces to crush them, but the police are afraid to take action, and other authorities protect them. If our tribe were not so united, we would have no hope of defending ourselves. We do not have permission to do this, but we have no choice."

Amazing what a little organizing at the grass roots level can do to against the 'cave dwellar' 7th century centurians hiding along the borders.

OCCUPATION.

Like the Iraqis, the Afghanis want the USA and Coalition Forces to get the hell out of THEIR country.

Tell me, how many of the original 9/11 terrorists came from the NATION of Afghanistan? Right ZERO.

We have NO right to be occupying their country. :(

12. Afghanistan is such a losing proposition. We should get out, not sink further in the quagmire.
Obama should consult with Red Army veterans of the war in Afghanistan before he follows on their same path to disaster.

Why can't we stop fucking up and killing innocent people? I feel like yelling at Bush, but he's gone - we need smarter planning.

15. This is why they got rid of the draft. If the draft existed, people would have forced
an end to these occupations at least 3 years ago.

We need to start activating like it's 1969.

Or shame on us, too.

17. the neo-fascist National Security Doctrine proclaims that defending a nation
comes before--or even to the detriment of--defending its citizens: hence Operation Northwoods and drone raids to "save Pakistan/Afghanistan"--regardless of the thousands of deaths
