China's Panchen Lama cites Buddha to praise Beijing
Source: Reuters

BEIJING, March 22 (Reuters) - The Tibetan anointed by Beijing as the region's second-ranking spiritual leader was quoted by Chinese state media on Sunday as saying the teachings of Buddhism justify the Communist Party's rule in his remote homeland.

His comments came two weeks after the exiled Dalai Lama said 50 years under Communism had brought "untold suffering" and turned the region he once ruled as spiritual and temporal leader into a "living hell".

Gyaltsen Norbu, recognised by China as the 11th incarnation of the Panchen Lama but spurned by many Tibetans, said the last few decades had brought freedom and prosperity to the people of Tibet, thanks to the "wise" leadership of the Party.

The 19-year-old, writing in an editorial in Party mouthpiece the People's Daily to be published on Monday, cited a line of Buddhist scripture about good leaders leading to happy people.

3. Who in China or Tibet would really swallow that bullshit?
For their "dear leaders", it's all appearances. They get what they want through the tactics of threats and violence and then turn around and try to make it legitimate by this? Norbu is a joke at best and the Chinese Communist Party leaders are a bunch of dumb-fuck assholes at best too. It's not about "communism" for them. It's about keeping their asses in luxury and using the people for their own stupid mind games. May they one day rot in the hell they make of this earth for so many others.

4. The same type of people who would swallow propaganda about how wonderful life was in Tibet under the
God King of Tibet, the Daily Lama.

6. Maybe that's just longing for the days that didn't suck as much as they suck now.
That sort of thing.

5. IIRC, this "Panchen Lama" was kidnapped as a boy and raised as a tool
Lhasa has become like Warsaw in 1941.

There have been a few material improvements in the lives of the Tibetans -- some new housing, roads, the bare minimum that can ALSO support an occupying army. I don't think it's even a matter of trying to suppress Buddhism anymore; this is an old animus against Tibetans being supercharged by the gerontocracy in Beijing.
