Steel workers in China protest
Source: Straitstimes

BEIJING - NEARLY 1,000 steel workers took to the street in central China to demand payment of their salaries and insurance premiums, state media said on Sunday.
The workers from an iron and steel company in Henan province blocked a major road Saturday to register their dissatisfaction with a restructuring plan drawn up by the firm, the official Xinhua news agency said.

They were requesting the payment of their salaries, medical and pension insurance premiums and compensation for laid-off workers in the city of Linzhou, according to the news agency.

The workers only dispersed on Sunday, Xinhua said.

2. These used to be our jobs, here in the U.S. until Repugnicans and Wall Street types took....
them away from us, and to China. HOWEVER, they still continued to sell their products to us, but when the jobs were taken away, we no longer had money to buy them with.

When will outsourcing stop? It needs to be hit with tariffs so high, that the companies need to come back here.

6. Study History
Protectionist Tariffs don't work. They end up causing trade wars. One jacks up the tariffs and the other country retaliates or blocks imports.

9. The trade agreements are a world government of the rich, by the rich,
meant to such the life blood out of the working and middle classes, for the purpose of ever-enriching the already-rich classes. But you like that, huh?

3. Goodness, what will the capitalists over here do if workers in China
demand higher pay? We need vast supplies of low-wage labor in the world for our system to function.

5. They will probably set their sites on Africa
...as soon as they find a stable country and puppet gov't to feed $$ to. The U.S. African Command (Africom) was formally opened for business on 10/1/08.

8. It would be nice if Africa could make the progress China has made in the last 20 years.
It's not likely, but it would be nice.

7. This is a very good sign
When they demand as much as US workers do, US workers can compete with them on a more even playing field.
