Madoff set to remain behind bars
Source: BBC News

Disgraced US financier Bernard Madoff has been denied bail while he awaits sentencing for masterminding a $50bn (£35bn) investment fraud.

Last week, Madoff, 70, pleaded guilty to all 11 charges against him when he appeared in a New York court.

Madoff was then remanded in custody but his lawyers contested the decision and said he should be released on bail.

However, the appeals court said Madoff could flee and should remain in jail until sentencing on June 16.

1. Lucky Madoff!
My house doesn't even have one bar! And when I retire, I hope to dine as well as you do in jail.

4. There are countries that will not extradite for financial crimes
and he was probably hoping to make it to one of them, now that the charges and plea are set. He would have been making a big mistake, no country in the world would not voluntarily extradite this turd.

5. "Life in the penthouse"
Maybe he thought if he pleaded guilty that the judge would just sentence him to "life in the penthouse."

6. Not only is he a risk for flight, but for suicide too.

If he dies before he's officially sentenced, it's vacated. The wife gets to keep them money, and the victims would have to go through civil channels to get it back. He's safer where he is in more ways than one.
