TRENTON (AP) -- New Jersey is poised to become the first state in the nation to finance stem cell research.

Gov. James E. McGreevey will announce in his budget address Tuesday that the state will provide $6.5 million for a stem cell research institute, The New York Times reported in Saturday's editions.

Rutgers University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey will run the institute, which will be based in New Brunswick.

McGreevey wants to spend $50 million over the next five years for research on human embryonic stem cells.

1. NJ---You are about to be invaded!
His Chimperial majesty and his hachet man Asscroft will not allow this bit of crazy "states rights" behavior! You will be visited by the National Guard soon , I suspect, to bring this immoral reign of terror to an end!

Only half kidding here...I can't wait to see Mr. "I'm tormented over my hard decision to pander to my religious nut base" Bush* comment on this. Perhaps they will send Pickles out to say that many Americans are "very very shocked" to hear that a state is involved in REAL science!
