Bristol - A Roger Williams University student who accepted a whites-only scholarship has changed his mind about the money, and will donate it to those affected by The Station nightclub fire.

Adam Noska announced yesterday that he would donate the 250 dollars to the relief fund along with an additional 750 dollars he plans to raise.

2. If he had been a bit "classier"
he 1. wouldn't have had to change his mind, and 2. would have donated it to the NAACP.

I have no use for these people.

5. Yes, but find hope in the fact that he was open to changing his views.
He's a member of Eliot Aronson's "Movable Middle," which means that he hasn't been lobotomized by the neocon agenda. That makes him a potential member of the swing vote and someone I'm not ready to write off.

6. I don't have the power to "write him off"
Except in my own mind.

Look, sooner or later, someone on this thread is going to say it: how many NON-whites did that money help?

Yes, it's a good cause...hell yes it is. HOWEVER, he sure didn't donate it to a charity that will benefit anyone of any other racial makeup, eh?

I hate to be so cynical, but the current political situation in the US has forced it; I don't trust anyone that would even remotely be involved with an organization like the one that passed out this scholarship.

Sorry.

7. The original intent of Rhodes Scholarships. . .
was the expansion of the "Nordic race." It was Cecil Rhodes' dream to organize all his scholarship recipients into "a secret society (which) would establish a bureaucratic government over all peoples of the earth" (from Hannah Arendt, Imperialism, part one of The Origins of Totalitarianism).

I'm being facetious, but should we now write off both William Clinton and General Clark for participating, however remotely, in a scholarship begun by such a headstrong, bigoted madman?

8. I write people like the person in question off
I am sick to damn death of racists, biggots, homophobes, and misogynists--and their ilk.

If you don't, hey...great.

9. Now, wherever did you get the idea. . .
I am not disgusted with the litany of idiots you list?

You have to look at the full situation, however, and the truth of it is, some of our "best and brightest" have participated in educational opportunities whose genesis is questionable at best.

11. Oh hell. You know I agree with that.
I mean, my God...I was in my twenties once too...but, this is the internet, and I am just so tired of these "conservative" freaks!

I think, and say, things here that I don't in "real life."

Does that make sense?

4. Why did he enter the contest then?
Some of his friends got to him. This is the first anniversary of the SDtation Fire. 100 people died I think his conscious bothered him.

3. But it sounds more like he did it because of the backlash
not because it was the right thing to do.

The "granddaddy" of all understatements!!!

GOP'ers only feel guilt about sex. And even then, it's totally tied up with fascination.
