BAGHDAD, Iraq - International Red Cross representatives visited Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) in U.S. custody for the first time Saturday, while Iraq (news - web sites)'s U.S. administrator said some experts believe it could take up to 15 months to organize an election that Shiites want as soon as possible.
Two Red Cross delegates, one of them a doctor, saw Saddam at an undisclosed detention facility inside Iraq, the International Committee of the Red Cross said.
Saddam was allowed to write a note to his family, which will be delivered after it is censored, ICRC spokeswoman Antonella Notari said.
"We were able to tour the premises, and we were able to speak to Mr. Saddam Hussein in private without any witnesses present," she said, adding that ICRC delegates would visit Saddam again at an unspecified time.
