Diplomats Press Haiti Peace Plan
The delegation of North American, European and Caribbean officials is seeking to halt clashes between government supporters and armed rebels.

It is believed to be proposing that Mr Aristide stay in office with reduced powers as part of a new government.

The plan would give the opposition a stake in power.

This would include a say in the appointment of a new prime minister.

This is a Peace Plan? Sure. You may choose to stay in office, but we're going to make it even more difficult for you to get anything done - get rid of your prime minister, because we're going to replace him with someone more to our liking, along with a few other key players. :eyes:

It appears things are going according to plan for Powell.

Aristide accuses the political opposition of supporting the armed rebellion ...

Rebel leader Guy Philippe said Friday the next rebel target is Haiti's second-largest city, Cap-Haitien, where he served as police chief before fleeing in 2000 amid charges that he plotted a coup...

Paul (Evans Paul is political opposition leader) said the ambassadors said they believed the Democratic Platform coalition ``has enough moral force to persuade the rebels to lay down their arms.''

That was an odd statement, he noted, since among rebel leaders are people who tried to kill Paul and other opponents under brutal military dictatorships 1991 to 1994. ..
