Iran, Hamas defend wanted Sudanese president

KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) — A senior Iranian official and a delegation of Hamas and other Palestinian militants are visiting Sudan to support its wanted president, who is accused of war crimes in Darfur.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani says the International Criminal Court's arrest warrant for the Sudanese leader is an "insult."

President Omar al-Bashir is wanted for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Darfur, where his government has been battling rebels for six years. Larijani spoke after landing Friday in Sudan's capital, Khartoum.

Dozens of al-Bashir supporters are marching in Khartoum after Friday prayers in support of the president. They are waving banners and shouting: "With our blood and soul, we defend you, al-Bashir."

3. I wonder if they have a position on the Burmese junta or Bob Mugabe.
With issues affecting Iran and Hamas, I try to evaluate events without a predetermined conclusion in mind. When their world view includes an assessment that it is an "insult" to indict the Sudanese president, in spite of the horror that is Darfur, I have to shake my head.

Does Sudan support Hamas financially? Or is this just Islamic groups and countries supporting another Islamic country?

The International Criminal Court's decision to pursue a sitting head of state on war crimes charges, puts others around the world on notice, but it's also raising questions about which leaders are being targeted. African and Arab nations say they will support al-Bashir, fearing the warrant issued against him Wednesday will bring even more conflict in Darfur. The Arabic atop the poster reads 'Honor... Because they love Palestine'.
