France Calls for Repatriation of Guantanamo Seven

PARIS (Reuters) - France called on Friday for the repatriation of seven French
nationals held in Guantanamo Bay after Britain said five of its citizens held at the U.S.
military camp were to go home.

British officials said on Thursday the prisoners were expected to be flown home in
the next three weeks, while Denmark announced that Washington had agreed to the
repatriation of one of its nationals.

"(France) has asked that the French detainees, if they are to be tried, should be done
so by courts of law and preferably in France," the Foreign Ministry said in a
statement.

"To this end, France intends to pursue its contacts with U.S. authorities to ensure
that these detainees can return to our country and that their cases be studied via
appropriate judicial procedures," it added.
