Karl Rove skips another congressional hearing on U.S. Attorney firings
Source: new mexico independent

Former White House deputy chief of staff and current Fox News commentator Karl Rove once again failed to appear to give testimony in front of a House committee. Rove was scheduled to appear in front of the House Judiciary Committee to discuss his role in the firing of U.S. attorneys.

As he has in the past, Rove didn’t appear, citing executive privilege.

Former U.S. Attorney David Iglesias was fired after the 2006 elections for what appears to be political reasons. At that time, U.S. Rep. Heather Wilson was involved in a close race with former state Attorney General Patricia Madrid for the 1st Congressional District seat. Wilson and former Sen. Pete Domenici, both Republicans, each made phone calls to Iglesias.

That firing, along with other potentially politically motivated firings of U.S. attorneys across the country, has prompted a federal investigation that may be targeting Rove.

5. He cannot be compelled to testify. But he must appear. That is the purpose of a subpoena.
He can be arrested and jailed simply for not appearing.

17. I don't get it.
Why isn't the House Sending the Sargent at Arms to Arrest him and make him appear? And then hold him until he testifies. It wou8ld also send a message to the other republican apparatchiks about the powers of the House to compel testimony?

13. This Congress is ineffective. How do we force them to resign for dereliction of duty to perform?
And put progressives who will get the job done in their place?
I mean, if Burris can be forced to resign by doing what all governement reps do( raise money)
why can't these other folks be forced to resign for dereliction of duty?

Who do we go to to hold them accountable and put them out?

Edited on Mon Feb-23-09 07:16 PM by abq e streeter
and hey, two links to The New Mexico Independent simultaneously ( and at the same time too) on DU. ( other one on our being close to a domestic partnership law). Maybe we really are part of the ol' U.S. of A. And speaking of "pretty please"... please please please, god, let Domenici and Heather Wilson rot in the same prison as Rove ( yeah I know, hallucinating again).

why do I make such a charge? Because if they were truly serious, they'd send the Sargent at Arms to drag Rove to jail.

25. The conclusion is unavoidable, 'hunter. Besides, they don't even need to do that, since Obama's
election, he supposedly controls the DOJ and FBI.

He could now send the US Marshalls to arrest Rove's felonious ass. But the law is NOTHINg without people with the guts to enforce it.

But he doesn't. Bushies still do and they'll only let him go so far, which it doesn't look like he's even going to try that much.

The resulting biofuel could power the nations cars, albeit giving the roadways a distinct ass odor.

Seriously, it's time to grab him and debrief him... wait.. Sorry, gotta go hurl...
