Jeffrey Skilling, the former chief executive of Enron, was charged by the US government yesterday in a 35-count indictment that holds the maximum penalties of 325 years behind bars and $80m (£42m) in fines.

The 50-year old was released after posting $5m bail. The indictment says Skilling made $89m in selling shares at artificially inflated prices.

And Another Story Here

Reuters, Thursday, February 19, 2004
By Matt Daily and Erwin Seba

HOUSTON (Reuters) - Former Enron Corp. Chief Executive Jeff Skilling, who led the company's transformation from staid pipeline to risk-taking energy trader, was charged on Thursday with fraud, insider trading and lying about Enron's finances ahead of its spectacular collapse.

He pleaded not guilty to all counts and his attorneys vowed to fight the case they said was nothing more than persecution by the government.

A defiant Skilling shook his head "no" as U.S. Magistrate Frances Stacy read a 42-count indictment that also included new charges against a former Enron chief accountant, Rick Causey, who last month pleaded not guilty to six fraud counts.

10. I don't think so
The Fed prosecutor, i.e. Lil' Ashcroft, said in his indictment: "This is THE man." Very carefully chosen language and phrasing. I think he really means it.

What we can read this as meaning is that Skilling is going to be blamed for everything, and miraculously, Kenny Boy will be found to be absolutely totally 100% innocent, and all nasty things said about him has just been a witchhunt by Democrats because they hate America, and strike at her through Her Heroes, like George W.

His Chimperial Highness will NOT let Kenny Boy go down. He is very loyal to his knives and fellow scoundrels, plus he sure as heck can't have his intimate friendship with Kenny Boy and his influence on energy policy get publicized again in this election year.

The American people declared that Martha Stewart was not big enough of a blood sacrifice to atone for Corporate Scandals -- so now they are trying Skilling.

6. Did you hear that pathetic lawyer
i heard a radio report and some lawyer was crying about having to take Skilling away from his childred and perhaps put him in prison(a cushie federal prison I suppose) for the rest of his life..

TO listen to the report, you would think the crime was against Skilling for doing this to him..

I had a good laugh..

8. People had a good laugh when Jeff Skilling told an audience
Edited on Fri Feb-20-04 09:26 AM by 0007
at an Enron stock rally. "The difference between California and the Titanic was that at least the Titanic went down with it's lights on."

It is now perhaps easy to equate the great comedian Mr. Jeffery Skilling with the fate of the Titanic. I'm sure the last night comics will find much material.

In my opinion the news of both Skilling and the Titanic are colossal, and both will never surface again.

12. I'll bet you EVERYTHING my family lost in Enron, that no one will serve
more than a year (if at all) for this huge crime.

Go ahead and take my bet...I could use the money!
