Frist may make 2008 White House run
http://salon.com/news/wire/2004/02/19/frist/index.html

Feb. 19, 2004 | MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Two-by-two, lawmakers left the church where the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. once preached and walked to a black granite civil rights memorial bearing the names of those killed in the 1960s struggle for equality.

Led by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., and one-time King aide John Lewis, they clasped hands, closed their eyes and sang ``We Shall Overcome.''

Frist called the visit a sacred pilgrimage. It also was one in a series of ``Kodak moments'' the Tennessee transplant surgeon has strung together as he positions himself for what colleagues say will be a run for the White House in 2008.

``This is the kind of preliminary public relations that you couldn't buy for any money,'' said David Bositis, a political analyst with the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, a black think tank in Washington.

37. This is the man who's family business got a $1 billion plus fine from
for defrauding Medicare! More than ONE BILLION DOLLARS! This is the family business, Hospital Corporation of America, and at the time his father was Chairman of the Board and his brother was President! Father has since retired.

Sounds like primo presidential material for sure. Just like Bush and his family.

The reason Frist got into politics was to get more control over government regulations that were limiting the family business. He ran a dirty campaign, with lots of money and no political experience, and kicked out Jim Sasser - one of the best Democrats Tennessee ever sent to Washington (and we've sent quite a few really good ones).

Bill Frist is a "crony capitalist". Get a business, get government to pay for it, keep the money, dump all the costs back on the government.

Come, Killer Frist! Here, Killer Frist! Look what we have for you!

The man whose family keeps healthcare from millions of Americans is going to be soooooooooooooooooo popular.

And then, of course, he just might tick off Jeb.

he hasn`t said a thing about anything since he got the job? they are letting delay and others be the shock troops. delay is under the radar and will surface about 2006 and lead the "new" republican party...

13. Frist will probably be the early favorite for the 2008 nomination.
He's the most prominent national Republican who has got the kind of persona that is needed to run. With Cheney out, I think Frist will be sure to be a contender. I imagine it will probably be him, a governor or two (Romney, perhaps) and then a few crackpot businessmen who want a flat tax.

Besides, he won't stand a snowball's chance in Waikiki against the incumbent President Kerry!

A "sacred pilgrimage"? :puke: :puke: :puke: When his buddy Bush* made a similar "pilgrimage" for MLK Day, he followed it up by shoving Judge Charles "Hang 'em High unless they're Cross Burners" Pickering down our throats.

16. Nah... he's w-a-y too fundie for national consumption...
Plus, he has that Lott-like, fundie hair-helmet thing going on.

He's one scary dude.

Of course, this news could mean one of two things; either he's set to replace Cheney on the ticket, or he thinks Bush is going to lose in November.

Kills kittens, but the man covers his bases.

17. Why does it mean Cheney is out or he thinks Bush will lose?
Cheney could never be President outright. Bush and Cheney pretty much said this outright in the 2000 election.

2008 will be a totally open seat unless our Dem wins in 2004.

Frist, Guliani, Ridge and probably Jeb will all duke it out in 2008.

36. His latest letter for the Republican Presidentail Task Force says this:
"it is the role of Republican Presidential Task Force's Platinum Members to make sure that the liberals--Howard Dean, Tom Daschle, Hillary Clinton and other special interest groups fail in their effort's to defeat President Bush's agenda..."

No mention of Kerry or Edwards at all in that paragraph or in the letter. I think he thinks Bush will lose and then he can step in to take on the Democratic incumbent in '08. Notice also that he says bush's agenda, not Bush himself. Maybe I am just splitting hairs, but he signed his name to it.

Of course the biggest mystery is why he sent that letter to yours truly. Or why he thinks I would pony up $120 to help the Republican he thinks will lose.

18. If Frist replaces Crash Cart...
...that would put him in a good position to run (being an incumbent VP). However, if he believes Shrub's going down this year, then '08 is wide open to any repug. Maybe Jeb doesn't want the gig...
