Tonga settles lawsuit with king's jester over missing millions

The Pacific kingdom of Tonga has settled a long-running lawsuit against its American court jester who was accused of spiriting away a 26-million-dollar trust fund, lawyers said.

"We have agreed a settlement in this case and the details are currently being finalised," said Patrick Richardson, lawyer for Bogdonoff, who claims to be the world's only court jester.

The row centres on Tonga's claim that Bogdonoff bilked King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV and his government of the cash that Tonga made selling citizenship to Hong Kong Chinese people ahead of the 1997 handover of the former British colony to Chinese rule.
