No link - just a note that we plan on a warm reception. Hopefully,I will be able to post a link tomorrow if it makes the papers:

Action Alert

February 17, 2004

Meet and Greet the Three Cheerleaders of the Jobless Recovery
Tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 18

President Bush’s Labor, Treasury and Commerce Secretaries
Visit Portland in the Morning and Eugene in the Afternoon

President Bush’s traveling cabinet secretaries – Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, Commerce Secretary Donald Evans and Treasury Secretary John Snow – will visit Portland and Eugene tomorrow to lead cheers for the administration’s economic policies that have boosted profits for global corporations and decimated jobs for American workers.

Make Sure They Hear from Oregon Workers About the Impacts of the Bush’s Economic Policies On Jobs, the Jobless and Working Families

Eugene – Wednesday Afternoon

11 AM: News Conference at Food for Lane County (770 Bailey Hill Road) -- City Councilor David Kelly, Interim Executive Director of Food for Lane County Jessica Chanay, Business owner Joseph McKinney, Disability rights advocate Gweneth van Frank Carlson, a spokesperson for Peace Health Medical, and Dan Bryant from Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon. These speakers will provide context, by pointing out some stark realities about joblessness, health issues, and hunger in Oregon.

12 NOON: Eugene residents welcome the cabinet secretaries to their private meeting at Rexius Wood Products, 1275 Bailey Hill Road, Eugene. Secretaries Chao, Evans and Snow are scheduled to arrive at 12:30 p.m. Please bring signs, banners, creative chants -- and of course, your own cheerleading outfit! We definitely want these officials to see our welcoming committee as they arrive for their exclusive closed-door meeting.

1. Cheerleaders
An apt description of this trio. As far as job creation, it is purely faith-based at this point. I hope my friends from Eugene will give them a nice welcome for all us unemployed Oregonians.

They schedule "interviews" with the local RW radio station and get big fat softball questions. Bush 04 campaigning at tax payer expense.

14. I like the "Empty Warhead" sign in the first pic
with the picture of the Shrub on it. Give that guy (holding the sign) a prize or something.

5. Heading for Eugene?
Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 11:39 AM by SpiralHawk
Who is writing this itinerary? Snarf. Guffaw.

The BushCo Cabinetistas are going to hear about "things" while they are in Eugene.

I'd bet a tub of tofu on it.

Go you Eugeiacs.
In freedom may you walk.
In a peaceful, dignified, and powerful manner, may you walk.

8. unintended satire
They are heading for Rexius Forest Products, which is on the outskirts of town, and has very little parking. I am sure this is intended to make it more difficult for protestors to get to, but there is a bike path that goes right by there. This is a company that deals in bark mulch and other forest by-products for landscaping, etc. But there are big piles of chicken shit and cow shit. Being downwind from their yard is not pleasant. My sign will practically write itself: "Are you here to deliver more manure?" Any other suggestions?

7. So, will they actually encounter any unemployed people?
Or is this just another mutual suck-fest with the Chamber of Hos?

9. Great retort from Oregon Rep Peter DeFazio
Yesterday I heard Peter DeFazio on the radio regarding this visit. He said that any money that this crew spends while in Oregon (on hotels, food, and gas) will provide more stimulus than anything they've done in the past three years.

Fantastic! Thanks, Pete!

Oregon still has unemployment hovering around 7%, and these jackasses have the nerve to show up and tell us how much they've done for the state.

12. 7% unemployment in Oregon? I think it's higher.
Those idiots are lucky if they aren't thrown out of town by right and left wingers alike! Bad time to be playing cheerleader in a state ravaged by Bush's failed policies. My family and I were seriously considering Eugene for our new hometown (I LOVE THAT TOWN!), but due to the layoffs at the schools, the early release of prisoners, and basic failing infrastructure due to Bush's economy, we chose further north in Washington. The unemployment rate is high here, but Oregon is higher. I hope Oregon recovers from Bush Inc... it's a great place.

11. I grew up in Springfield
Edited on Wed Feb-18-04 11:54 AM by DiverDave
My mom and sis are out in Harrisburg.
And if they want to see any unemployed folks all they have do do is just look around on the drive.
ALOT of the folks out at that time of day are looking for jobs that aren't there.
It's pretty bad there, according to my sis.

13. Can we assume the Republican Party or the Bush/Cheney campaign is paying
to send these three lackeys to Oregon to campaign for Bush and not the taxpayers?
