(Norm) Coleman's Photocopies (of ballots) not good enough for judges
Source: MSNBC/KARE

Republican Norm Coleman received some good news and some that would fall into the not-so-good category on the first day of his election contest trial in Saint Paul.

The three-judge panel agreed to Coleman's request to reexamine nearly 12,000 rejected absentee ballots. Most of them have never been opened, and Coleman's legal team contends at least 5,000 were wrongly disqualified.

Although many of the same lawyers originally asked the Minnesota Supreme Court to keep all of those ballots off the table, the Coleman camp now sees them as the key to victory in the disputed Senate race.

The judges, however, will not accept the photocopies the Coleman campaign planned to introduce as evidence beginning Wednesday. The panel wants to see the original ballots, before it begins double checking the decisions of local election judges.

1. So are they going to keep "counting" these ballots until Franken's term expires?
It seems like the judges are now opening up an endless recount scenario. Why did Coleman think photocopies would be OK, when some of the stuff they're contesting is the size of a fleck of dust?

4. The endless recount scenario..
... is what the SCOTUS used to justify sticking us with Bush. Let them count.

12. Carrying the "count every vote" to extremes
Sometimes it is time to just pack it in, take the highest tally, and chuck the rest into the dustbin.

2. I hope those judges are elected. Minn. isn't going to like its lack of representation.

3. All I hear from Coleman
is a loud, high-pitched whine. Any way to fix it?

5. The only reason I can think
of that unopened ballots would be rejected is if they came in after the deadline. Late isn't okay. And the postmakrs should be obvious.

7. After 2000
All I can say is let them count. I don't care how long it takes. I realize we all want Coleman gone, but I will never get the bitter taste of 2000 to go away. Count, recount, and count again if that's what it takes.

I think the better solution (though more costly) is that in a close election like this, a runoff should occur. Without Barkley on the ballot, it would be a lot easier. If Minnesota then picked Coleman...so be it. But I doubt it.

9. A photocopy of a receipt won't get me my $20 rebate and this corn-nosed jackass with big teeth wants
to pawn photocopies of ELECTION BALLOTS to convince somebody of something?

No buggering way, Norm.

In other contexts, using forged ballots is tantamount to fraud. Right?

11. Photocopies are usually good evidence if there's no question about the authenticity
of the original or the accuracy of the copy.

10. Coleman was against counting rejected absentee ballots before he was for it.
He was initially (when he was "ahead") against examining ANY rejected absentee ballots. Then he whined until uniform standards were created. The result of that was that the local election judges and both campaigns had to agree the ballot was improperly rejected to count it. He agreed to the process and then after it led to his loss, he starts whining that MORE rejected ballots should be counted.

It's very obvious that Coleman will continue to whine unless something comes up in his favor. He's shopping for anwers until he gets one that suits him, like a spoiled 5 year old.
