Venezuela: Diplomacy with US on hold despite Obama

Fabiola Sanchez, Associated Press Writer – AP CARACAS, Venezuela – Venezuela is not yet ready to let the U.S. ambassador return to Caracas despite the change of administration in Washington, Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro said Tuesday.

Venezuela's relations with the U.S. have deteriorated in recent years as leftist President Hugo Chavez has crusaded against what he calls the U.S. "empire" and has hurled epithets such as "the devil" at former President George W. Bush.

In September, Chavez expelled U.S. Ambassador Patrick Duddy and recalled his envoy to Washington.

"Any step toward re-establishing the U.S. ambassador in Venezuela will probably take some time," Maduro said at a news conference.

1. Couple of black holes in this Associated Pukes (AP) article...
...and, gee, you left out the best part:

"Chavez has expressed a desire for improved relations under President Barack Obama, whom he praised for ordering the closure of the Guantanamo Bay prison camp and banning torture." --AP

BLACK HOLES (of missing or dis- information):

"Venezuela's relations with the U.S. have deteriorated in recent years as leftist President Hugo Chavez has crusaded against what he calls the U.S. 'empire' and has hurled epithets such as 'the devil' at former President George W. Bush." --AP

Yeah, well, the Bushwhack-supported violent military coup against Chavez's elected government might have done something to sour relations between Venezuela and the U.S.--to mention JUST ONE of the dirty rotten Bushwhack activities in Venezuela.

And, as Rafael Correa, President of Ecuador said, of Chavez's remark about Bush being "the devil": "It's an insult to the devil."

---

"In September, Chavez expelled U.S. Ambassador Patrick Duddy and recalled his envoy to Washington." --AP

Hm, I wonder why he just up and did that. Seems that the U.S. ambassador was funding and supporting white separatists in Bolivia (a close ally of Venezuela), who were sacking government and NGO buildings, beating up the indigenous, blowing up a gas pipeline and machine-gunning some 30 unarmed peasants, in an effort to topple the elected government in that country. Bolivia also threw out their U.S. ambassador. And, once he was gone, the South Americans' own organization--their new 'common market,' UNASUR--could successfully help President Morales restore order.

Chavez didn't throw the U.S. ambassador out of Venezuela for no reason. He wants this bloody U.S. interference in South American countries to stop. Seems a reasonable desire to me.
