Bush Officials Offer Cautions on White House Jobs Forecast
http://www.nytimes.com/2004/02/18/politics/18JOBS.html?ex=1077685200&?en=bf5569c5fea9fce6&?ei=5062&?partner=GOOGLE

Published: February 18, 2004

RICHLAND, Wash., Feb. 17 — Treasury Secretary John W. Snow distanced himself on Tuesday from the Bush administration's official prediction that the nation would add 2.6 million jobs by the end of this year.

That prediction, which is far more optimistic than that of many private sector forecasters, was part of the annual economic report released last week by the White House Council of Economic Advisers and was immediately echoed by Mr. Bush himself.

But on a tour through Washington and Oregon to promote the president's economic agenda, Mr. Snow and Commerce Secretary Donald L. Evans both declined to endorse the White House prediction and cautioned that it was based on economic assumptions that have an inherent margin of error.

Wasn't it Snow-job himself that started the "message" of 200,000, 2.6 million -- no wait -- 3.8 million jobs?

5. Democrats need to repeat Bush's lies in some ads.
In 2001 Bush told us that his tax cuts would create 575,000 new jobs.

In 2002 Bush told us that his tax cuts would create 2,500,000 new jobs.

In 2003 Bush told us that his tax cuts would create 2,000,000 new jobs.

In 2004 Bush told us that his tax cuts would create 2,600,000 new jobs.

In 1993 the republican party told us that passing president Clinton's tax bill would destroy the economy and put millions out of work.

{Then show the video of Bush saying this}

"There's an old saying in Tennessee -- I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee -- that says, fool me once, shame on -- shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again."

Can your family afford to be fooled again?

10. Would be a nice add but need to add some results
2001 Bush* said tax cuts would create 575,000 new jobs ~ results 1.9 million jobs lost
2002 Bush* said his tax cuts would create 2,500,000 new jobs ~ results 2,500,000 jobs lost
etc etc

Other wise this should be played and played and played again until every single American has seen it at least two dozen times. Great idea

3. Stories like this make much more sense now...
...after reading The Price of Loyalty by Suskind & O'Neill. Shrub makes a grand (read: false) statement, and his aides scramble to "adjust" what he said by either restating or outright lying.

They've learned noting in 3 years...:eyes:

4. Margin of Error
Usually when people talk about a margin of error they talk about at the most 5-6% margin of error.... I guess * and friends talke margin of error in the range of 50-60%

7. Fuzzy math?
Say it isn't so. I do believe that I recall Mr. Bush excoriating Gore for "fuzzy math". These numbers are inherently dishonest.

Interesting that Bush only "creates" jobs during an election year. This just adds to his credibility gap - such obvious drivel.

9. Usually a margin of error has both signs (+ and -)
These guys come up with numbers out of the blue that are designed to fool people into thinking Chimpy can get out of his 2.2 million job hole by election time. If a student of mine in a science class came up with error estimates like this, I would flunk them immediately!

11. Part of the dupe post by JudiLyn that I want to comment on.
"I think the economy's growing, and I think it's going to get stronger," said Bush, the nation's first MBA president. He said he was pleased that 366,000 new jobs have been added since August. "But I'm mindful there are still people looking for work, and we've got to continue building on the progress we've made so far."

They are pleased with 366,000 new jobs since August???? WTF
That averages to 61,000 jobs if it is 6 months time period.

We lost almost 3 million jobs!! It would take over 4 years just to recover those jobs. By then how many more jobs would be lost?

14. Average of 61,000 - compare that to the initial claims that come out
weekly, or the 4 week average of initial claims they prefer. It's like one step forward and 2 steps back.

he himself will be looking for a new job after the election.
