United Defense Major Shareholder Sells 7.0 Million Shares

United Defense Industries, Inc. (NYSE:UDI) announced today that certain of its stockholders, affiliates of The Carlyle Group, sold 7.0 million shares of its common stock, or approximately $213 million, in a public offering led by J.P. Morgan Securities Inc. United Defense Industries will not receive any proceeds from the offering.

they need the money for something.?. Remember Poppy scum sold his shares at the end of October last year. My guess would be Carlucci and Bush are putting some money together for maybe a russian deal, maybe they are buying euros, maybe they are bailing before the crash. I am sure we will find out sooner or later, but I have to agree it is awfully smelly.

Private Equity groups usually take stakes with an eye to exit the investment in 2-5 years. Carlyle has had UDI since 1997. Carlyle, along with most of the other major P.E. groups have been on a shopping spree recently, particularly in Europe.

They are simply exiting one investment and will spend the cash on Cos with more upside
