George W. Bush
The deaths of Saddam Hussein's two sons could boost the American public's perception of the Bush administration's handling of post-war Iraq. As President George Bush prepares for a re-election battle next year, political analysts say that the Democrats find themselves in the difficult position of benefiting from continued bad news on both Iraq and the lagging U.S. economy.

The White House hopes the death of Saddam's sons will help reverse a recent polling trend that indicates growing unease among Americans over the continuing U.S. casualties in Iraq.

President Bush said the demise of Saddam's sons could prove to be a turning point in the process of building a new Iraq. "Now, more than ever, all Iraqis can know that the former regime is gone and will not be coming back," he said.

Republican political strategists said the White House is counting on good news from Iraq to bolster the president's re-election hopes next year. Former Republican Party Spokesman Clifford May said Mr. Bush already has a big advantage over his Democratic challengers because of his handling of the September 2001 terrorist attacks and the war on terrorism.

This truly shows how out of touch the Republicans are. To think killing Saddam's sons means A damn thing to Americans....JOBS do!

A nice article for Dean supporters! Although I'm a Kucinich lover,
Dean is my next choice. :bounce:

1. Cliff May shows what an idiot he is
"Clifford May said Mr. Bush already has a big advantage over his Democratic challengers because of his handling of the September 2001 terrorist attacks and the war on terrorism."

13.  I don't understand Repub. talking points about 9/11
"handling" of 9/11? What handling was there other than not preventing it from happening? And no one is safer in this country from terrorists.

I really think 9/11 talking points needed to be taken
out of Republican's hands. It was a massive failure of
paying attention to the intelligence by the Bush administration.
A lot of us believe that the Bushies did know and let it
happen on purpose.

We don't need reports to know this...enough material has
been gathered through the Internet.

16. Bob Graham is the only one effective on 9/11
Bob is the candidate to back if we are ever going to get the bottom of 9/11.

He's on the attack right now! You know who now has my support for the Democratic Presidential nomination? Florida Senator Bob Graham. He's fighting my fight. I have no other choice than to back the Man who can win the Truth of 9/11.

He's carrying the flag. My Flag. Our Flag. I'm getting in line behind him. People will hear me say....Support Bob Graham. They'll say "Who's he?" If they care to check him out, it won't be long before they know more about 9/11 and the lies told to us about Iraq.

Who else is leading our fight? We have no other. Bob is the Man with the Plan.

3. The death of Saddam's sons will only help
if it does in fact slow the guerrilla war. That certainly hasn't happened in the past few days but it's too early to draw any conclusions. BTW, Bush does have advantages on terrorism issues but I don't think they're as important a factor as Mr. May makes them out to be.

4. Repugs aren't out of touch at all
Edited on Sun Jul-27-03 11:59 AM by Eloriel
These so-called analysts push the point of view they want the public to adopt. They try to tell us what to think by asserting it's what we already think. It's the punditry form of push-polling, I guess you could say.

Edited to say: Bush is actually extraordinarily weak on defense, both abroad and at home. All that needs to be done is to point that out. Dems don't help by following the Repug "spin" that Bush is strong on defense and terrorism, and apparently believing the lie that Dems are weak on those issues.

6. Right El Just Say It Dems... Bush Sucks At Everything
Especially defense. Everything this guy touches turns to shit. Unlike Midas Bush has the "poop touch."

I mean come on Dems how much longer are you going to keep propping up "Mr crappy pants."

Why aren't his fifteen minutes of shitty pampers up?

BTW I have a young toddler I am trying to wean from diapers. Each and every time I change her nappy I am reminded of Bush.

11. I *fully* agree, Eloriel. That is *exactly* what is happening.
And this leads to another reason why the DLC is untrustworthy. The DLC leadership is pushing the same Republican-favoring spin, but since the DLC is funded by and represents the mega-corps that donate to them and the Republcian Party, I'm not surprised.

7. Aha
So the grisly display was damage control in attempt to reassure those doubting American voters. Too bad all the Iraqis who are organized to resist the US occupation aren't just limited to Saddam loyalists. It is bound to complicate that simple good guys vs the bad guys game plan.
But what the hey - they'll simply lie, like they always do. Even when they are called on their lies, they just continue spouting them---as if the revelation of the truth simply had no bearing whatsoever.

And it is amazing that so many Democrats seem to buy that any criticism of Bush isn't what the voters want to hear, and try to out-macho Bush, instead of pointing out the non-heroic reality for American soldiers who are trapped in that hell-hole. Instead they let this AWOL punk, clueless about foreign affairs, who dropped the ball on the pre-911 growing terrorist threat, who has underfunded homeland security, slashed veteran benefits, waged an illegal attack on a country based on stroked-up threats which increase further security threats and destroyed our international standing and credibility, get away with charging the Democrats as being "weak" on defense issues.

10. His handling of September 2001? Would that be, before, during or after?
Ignoring warnings, bunker hopping or sabotaging investigations - which is the part that will win his votes? (unless he runs in Saudi Arabia mebbe)

12. If 1 of Dem. candidates had a brain he'd start bashing the media as bias,
controlled, one sided, fascist... What would he have to lose? The Dems. don't fair treament in the media so what's actually the loss?

I'd also run with accusing the Bush Family of having ties with Philippine child prostitution through their business ties with Ramos and Carlyle.

14. This is why pressure needs to be
put back onto the administration and the focus BACK on the reality that they tried to sell us: that Iraq had WMDs. You can kill ALL the people of Iraq and if we were mislead to do so, then Bush lied and he needs to pay the price by stepping down.
