A Daily Look at U.S. Deaths in Iraq - 540 U.S. service members have died
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040217/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraq_us_deaths&cid=540&ncid=1473

As of Tuesday, Feb. 17, 540 U.S. service members have died since the beginning of military operations in Iraq (news - web sites), according to the Department of Defense (news - web sites). Of those, 374 died as a result of hostile action and 166 died of non-hostile causes, the department said. snip

Since May 1, when President Bush (news - web sites) declared that major combat operations in Iraq had ended, 402 U.S. soldiers have died — 259 as a result of hostile action and 143 of non-hostile causes, according to the military.

1. Accurate?
I have recently heard, not in any way verified, that they do not include the deaths of soldiers that have been moved out of Iraq after their injuries and the died as a result of those injuries. Anyone else heard of this?

6. They are counted.
I have seen the lists that include soldiers who later die of their injuries. As I continue to say, families would NOTICE if their loved one was not included on the DoD website and we would hear about it.

It is a credit to medical personnel that those who receive immediate care are highly likely to survive.

I am no fan of this government and find their conduct to be quite unscrupulous, however, on this issue I strongly believe that the names of the fatalities are being released and are correct.

Look at the pigstye site. Pfc Luis Moreno died in the UK on 1/29 after being shot in Iraq on 1/23.

2. The number is 1200-1800. Like the fellow above stated, they
are not counting the deaths of the injured. Another rumor is they are only counting American citizen deaths. Can't verify that anywhere yet.

There seems to be no truth about this war from the beginning until now. How can the president screw the military so badly and not one flag waving pro-war idiot cares. This was and is a criminal act from before the war until now.

5. Non-hostile?
I don't understand how you can have soldiers in a war zone that are KIA by non-hostile actions. It just seems to me that whatever killed them was fairly hostile. Of course, there are quite a few that have reacted negatively to the anthrax vaccine they were required to take (like the fellow who fell over dead for no apparent reason), but that seems like hostile actions on the part of the pharmaceutical industry (or maybe just negligent homicide).

7. They cook every other number
They ever get hold of. I'm sure they are minimizing it as much as possible.
