MANAGUA, Nicaragua (AP) -- Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, who caused a local stir when he dabbled in Nicaraguan politics in 2001, arrived here on Tuesday to promote trade with the Central American nation.
Bush, accompanied by a group of Florida business leaders, was to sign an agreement on trade, investment and economic development with President Enrique Bolanos.
During the 2001 election campaign here, the younger brother of President Bush, took out newspaper advertisements endorsing Bolanos, a free-market-oriented businessman, and denouncing his opponent, former President Daniel Ortega, leader of the leftist Sandinista National Liberation Front.
Bush at the time called Ortega "an enemy of everything the United States represents."
