Three Iraqi civilians, including a 10-year-old girl, have been killed by a stray US mortar round which hit the backyard of a home near the main American military base in Baghdad.

US troops fire mortar rounds across the Tigris River from their base several times a day.

US commanders describe the firings as part of a harassment-and-interdiction operation, which is designed to prevent insurgents from setting up firing positions in meadows across the river to attack the base

Yep, I'd feel pretty harassed if someone lobbed mortars at me too (this applies to civilians and the US/other soldiers there too) Everyone should generally make an effort to reduce their daily mortaring, IMHO

Jeezus--she had a name. she has a mother who gave birth to her, who most likely fed her at the breast and who loved her dearly. She had a father who delighted at the daughter he loved. She may have had brothers and sisters--she was a part of a family that will never be the same again'

What the hell are we doing? Why are we doing this? Why are our soldiers being ordered to kill ten year old innocent little girls?

I remember when I was ten years old and I remember when my daughter was ten years old. We were so dependant and so innocent, believing in the adults to protect and care for us--to feed and clothe us.

Dear heavens--what barbarism must we lend our names to under George the AWOL liar Bush and his fat assed librarian , upholstry wearing, eye lifted badly, botoxed, wig wearing frump?

We need to get out of there, now.

So they continuously shell an area because they think people wil set up shop there?

Gee, uh why not use land mines. If I recall, the US did not sign the land mine ban.

Disclaimer- Actually I'm not recommending the use of land mines. They pose a danger to the entire area and they don't discriminate who gets blown up.
