Israel claims Hamas security chief dead in attack
Source: AP

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli security officials say the army has killed the Hamas interior minister, who oversaw thousands of security agents in the Gaza Strip.

Officials from the military and Shin Bet security agency say Said Siam was killed while hiding in his brother's home in Gaza City. Siam is considered to be among Hamas' top five leaders in Gaza.

The Israeli officials said forces attacked the house after receiving information he was inside. Israeli intelligence believes he is dead.

Palestinian medical officials confirmed the house was attacked, but there was no word from Hamas on his fate.

2. A youngblood who has most likely been even more radicalized
...by this attack. You cannot kill your way out of the problem of Palestinian radicalism...if you decide to, it will only make the situation worse.

3. I am confused.
Who is the so-called bigwig they "got" last week?

It's like all these highly place Al Qaeda figures the US keeps killing ... who then pop up somewhere else. The ultimate pointless whack-a-mole.

6. That was my first thought on reading this as well....
I was sure they claimed to have gotten 'Mr. Big' last week. This is exactly the pattern the US used and is using in Iraq/Afghanistan except their 'Mr. Big' is the #2 in command. Same shit, different day for both the US and the State of Israel.

4. Israel kills about 200 Palestinians for every Hamas leader it kills.
What's a little collateral damage?

10. I think it's about 500 to 1 plus every UN installation and press offfice.
They got this Said Siam character and the suicide bomber guy, Sheikh Nizar Rayyan, along with entire family and most of the block he lived on . . . and that's about it.

20 days of pulverizing Gaza, killing over a 1000 civilians, wounding over 4000, and two Hamas bigshots is all they've got to show for it. But they're giving the United Nations, that bastion of anti-Semitism, a hell of pounding

Note the other part of the news story:

"Israel shelled the United Nations headquarters in the Gaza Strip on Thursday, engulfing the compound and a warehouse in fire and destroying thousands of pounds of food and humanitarian supplies intended for Palestinian refugees . . .

U.N. workers and Palestinian firefighters, some wearing bulletproof jackets, struggled to douse the flames and pull bags of food from the debris after the Israeli attack, which was another blow to efforts to ease the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

. . . Shells also struck a hospital, five high-rise apartment buildings and a building housing media outlets in Gaza City, injuring several journalists.

Bullets also entered another building housing The Associated Press offices, entering a room where two staffers were working but wounding no one. The Foreign Press Association, representing journalists covering Israel and the Palestinian territories, demanded a halt to attacks on press buildings.

The army had collected the locations of media organizations at the outset of fighting to avoid such attacks."

7. The correct word is "assassinated", considering this was an official...
...in a Democratically-elected government.

No?

14. Correct.
Still, don't hold your breath that anyone will do anything significant
to even reprimand Israel (much less punish them).
