2. It's only a reflection on these last 8 years that this is news to anyone
or needs to be said

But of course, if you ask Fox News, it's just like splashing some water on your face like you do after a shave

4. Isn't that ridiculous?
It's true but really pathetic that we even need to ask somebody whether or not this is torture. I really am amazed how fast this country has sunk to the level of every banana republic and hateful oppressive regime that we used to both hate and laugh at.

It's going to take a long time to root out the republican rot that has taken hold in every Federal department and probably even longer than that to restore any kind of legitimacy to the rest of the world.

20. It's a relatively new debate, but has been a long time coming
I know back in the Vietnam war days there was a lot of going back and forth on it, but nothing official. We have only in the last few years started an official discussion that seeks to formulate some policy about the practice.

9. Ha, Ha, Ha. You're kidding, right? The ONLY people to go.............
.............to jail for "abuse" was that sergeant and his hillbilly whore, and a couple of other low end regular soldiers. If you think Rumsfeld or Cheney are EVEN gonna be charged with anything, I have a very large bridge just laying around in my back yard that I'll sell ya for a couple hundred K.:sarcasm:

Guantanamo Detainee Tortured, Says Top U.S. Bush Official

By Bob Woodward
Washington Post

January 14, 2009

The top Bush administration official in charge of deciding whether to bring Guantanamo Bay detainees to trial has concluded that the U.S. military tortured a Saudi national who allegedly planned to participate in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, interrogating him with techniques that included sustained isolation, sleep deprivation, nudity and prolonged exposure to cold, leaving him in a "life-threatening condition."

"We tortured (Mohammed al-)Qahtani," said Susan J. Crawford, in her first interview since being named convening authority of military commissions by Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates in February 2007. "His treatment met the legal definition of torture. And that's why I did not refer the case" for prosecution.

Crawford, a retired judge who served as general counsel for the Army during the Reagan administration and as Pentagon inspector general when Dick Cheney was secretary of defense, is the first senior Bush administration official responsible for reviewing practices at Guantanamo to publicly state that a detainee was tortured.

.....

Checkmate.

16. the entire premise of waterboarding is the hope that victims will fess up rather than endure it.
if that's not the definition of torture, it ought to be.

Make Donald Rumsfeld admit that he's a child molester through the use of Water Boarding, and see if that is admissible in court.

25. Is ending torture supposed to be some kind of profound act?
only now are we starting to step out of the Dark Ages?
are we at last ready to join the civilized world yet?
